Noise from speakers.
Maybe someone has experienced this problem. I have a 91 coupe with a Bose radio. When I turn it on There is a loud almost hum type noise. It is not something that can be lived with and has no relation to the volume setting. I have noticed that is starts as soon as the antenna mast is fully extended if this
matters. Also the mast was changed not to long ago and I don't know if this could be a grounding issue.
If anyone has any ideas it is appreciated. :eek:

In the Bose system each speaker has its own amplifier and program material is fed from the radio/tape to each amplifier. The radio could be defective and is providing the hum to the amplifiers or the bypass capacitors on one or more amplifiers has lost its capacitance due to age and this causes the amplifier to oscillate making the hum. It is unlikely that all 4 amplifers had their capacitors go bad at the same time. So if one speaker is making the noise, I would suspect that particular amplifier. Amplifier power and audio is fed to each amplifier on each connector, so you cannot unplug the amplifier to eliminate the radio input to see if the amplifier oscillates by itself. You could unplug each amplifier and clip 12v onto the connector pin with the pink or pink/blk wire (12v). This will power the amplifier with no program material provided and the amplifier and its speaker should be quiet with no program material.
