I have the original mono AM/FM radio from my 69 and want to re-install it. The radio in the car now is kenwood direct fit. A real POS and no better than the original...( in my opinion.) The speakers in the kick panels are 4X6 dual cone and the added speakers in the back are medium quality in enclosures that are inconspicuous. All of the speakers ar 4 ohms. The original radio requires 8-10 ohm speakers. I would like to retain the rear speakers. The old radio has no fader for L/R or front /rear. It does have a tone control though... hehehe.... How can I make it work? Any hepl appreciated.

Hi Larry.
I agree!
As you can see by my thread I'm going to add a amp to my Kenwood to kick it up a bit.
I put in some 4X6 Rockford Fosgate's in the kick panels and a set of Polk's in the back on one of those speaker boxes you see in the vette catalogs.
Could be done. You could wire all the speakers into a combination of parrallel and series to get the correct ohm rating. Check http://www.mobileaudio.com in the FAQ section on how to do this wiring and calculate the ohm rating. On a side note, the kenwood conversion decks take a POS deck and modify it to fit the hole in the dash. I wouldn't expect much from them in the way of sound improvement over stock, just features. If you want sound improvement, you would want to either cut or install something somewhere else. An alternative is to install a CD changer/tuner unit in the rear in a storage compartment and have the controller for it hidden up front. It would look stock but give you better sound. Also, the 4x6 is a pretty poor speaker. Oval speakers distort sound and that small you get no cone travel. An alternative is a 4" mid with a tweeter mounted next to it that fills the hole. Boston Acoustics makes one and other makers do as well. Again, not ideal, but much better. Remember, your system sounds only as good as your weakest link. A pair of those BA speakers in front, some good BA or other brand coax in the rear(not the polk, something in the $120+ price range), a small amp, maybe 25wx4, would make a dramatic improvment in the sound for around $6-800. Hope this helps.
