I replaced an aftermarket stereo from my 2008 coupe with a 2012 Bose factory radio. The radio came installed with a navigation maps dvd in the dvd slot in the 2012 unit. I had to take the Vette into the dealership to get rid of the dreaded Theftlok Activated code message. When I try to use the navigation system the radio doesn’t recognize the dvd in the dvd slot. I get the message to load a navigation dvd in the dvd slot.
My question is if anyone knows whether or not the map is registered to the radio vin number?. If itt is will I have to purchase another map dvd and have it installed by the dealership?
Thanks

Agree. Eventually you will want cameras, CarPlay, etc. Don't be intimidated by swapping it out. Best thing I have done to an already great car.
The stock Nav system is 2004 tech, and way outdated compared to a good aftermarket system which will blow it away. The first thing I did when I got my car was to pull the stock Nav and install a top of the line Pioneer system, the increase in functionality and sound quality alone makes it well worth it, plus having front and rear view cameras is a great added feature.
OP says that he replaced an aftermarket system with a 2012 NAV system.
Without knowing what aftermarket system was removed, I fear the OP has made a backwards move technologically. Actually, I don't fear it, I know it.
Unless the aftermarket system was a single DIN type unit, I think they have made a huge mistake. Go and buy a new(er) double DIN aftermarket radio, with or without NAV if it has Apple Carplay or Android Auto. If it has either of these, you can use them for navigation.
