I am currently in stalling a new Sony xav 5600 in my 95 coupe. I actually had a Sony xav 1000 installed prior. I have confirmed all wires to connect except the Illumination Orange with white stripe wire. The prior installer had it connected to a lead that was hot all the time.
When I would turn the lights on the screen would dim. Through my investigation I actually found a lead that became hot when I turned the lights on.
I visited with Crutchfield Tech. and they said if the lead was hot all the time the screen would be dimmed all the time. I am really confused on how to wire , So I am asking for advice from people who know more about this than I do.
Thanks Hawkeye56
The Oramge/White (Illumination) wire should only be connected to a source that sees 12V+ only when the lights are tuned on, the purpose of the illumination wire is to automatically dim the display only when the lights are on. The original installer probably thought it was for head unit illumination which is why he had it hooked up that way.

That is what I was thinking also. I will connect it to a wire that becomes hot when the lights are on.

The C6's need an interface in order to install a aftermarket stereo. this interfaces between the new stereo and the cars canbus system, I don't see where this is needed for the C4's like yours.

Thank you very much, You can never get to old to learn something new.

Yeah, I don't think Jimmy noticed the year of car you had, I think he thought you had a C6. Bad Jimmy So did you get its hooked up right ?
I do not have it hooked up yet. We have had heat index of 95- 102 all week. I hope to get back at it this weekend. Work has been hectic this week also.
I can not wait to finish this project since I started it the middle of November.

Yes a very involved project. Middle of NovemberI completely removed the interior. Ordered new carpet and Duramat Extreme sound deadening along with closed cell foam. With only working on the weekends it took most of November and December to get the inside cleaned up and remove all old adhesive.
Ordered new speakers , Front Morel 5x7 component speakers. I had to completely redo the front speaker boxes to accept the larger speakers and still be able to use the original sill covers. I then had to modify the sill covers/ speaker covers to remain with the stock look.
Completely redone all trim with a new finish.
As soon as it warmed up late MARCH I started with the sound proofing and I covered every square inch I could. Ran all new wire for both amps and hid and covered everything to have a clean look and to eliminate any bleed over.
As soon as I can finish the head unit wiring and do a test for the rear camera and check software that it has I then can start installing carpet and everything else. I am sure ready to finish and cruise.

Well that explains things then, but you better hurry up, summers almost over You'll have to post photos of your install when you get it done.
Good I have been concerned about the battery.
I am running a 400 watt 4 channel amp, And a 500 watt amp for the sub. I ran 4 gauge wire from the battery to a splitter block.

You'll probably be fine, if you do notice the lights flicker when you turn it up, I'd suggest a higher amp alternator.
