Local alarm shops personnel are idiots.
All of them want to install an alarm that would come with its own remotes and no-one knows about an alarm that would work with my stock remotes.

I even got the sensor, but I can't find anyone to install it, not even a dealer.
Can a total newbie perform this install?
Yes a newbie should be able to install this fine. I haven't done it, but know of a few that have without problems.
As for your first line, you might ought to think about it before you react. What makes them idiots, after all? It's obvious they don't want to deal with it, as doesn't the dealer. Why, because its problematic. They install a piece into a larger system they are not familar with, and when it doesn't react as it should one time, who's to blame? If they do what you want, and it doesn't work like you think it should, they deal with an unhappy customer and the headaches to get it right. If they install a unit they are familar with, does everything and more over the factory system (and better I might add), your happy. From a business owners stand point, you decide. :yesnod:
Well, I do know that Codealarm makes a system that interfaces with stock GM system and allows you to use your stock keyfobs - but even when I tell them the model number they still insist that this is not possible.
How do I know that it is? Well, I had it on my 99 vette which I traded in. Unfortunately the shop that install it was resold.
Also can you confirm that pin 9 connection stays alive beyond 10 minutes?

Yeah, pretty much. I offered them $100 to do this install for me - they nah - too much work - just to connect three wires and wrap the sensor.
Oh well, I bench tested the sensor and it works fine, so all I need now the conformation about pin 9.

Most Alarm shops will only deal in what they sell, Code is a big enough company, you shouldn't have a problem finding a dealer.
I cannot confirm pin 9, I only have the same info that you do, sorry.
Has anyone verified that the 12 lead is still hot after key off sequence? It may be part of the delaye accesory bus. You may need to run the power right to a battery connection fused. Just an idea to look at.
It wasn't a power issue as I understood - the power was there - it was just like the system stopped reacting to the sensor, right?

Hmm, I tried it - I'm sure I found the right pin - but when attached a wire to it and then touched the body of BCM (after arming the alarm) nothing happened? :(
I'd guess the BCM metal body is grounded right? So it should provide a good ground?
Also how do you make a wire to stay in that connector? Do you unplug the connector from BCM and then fix it in there somehow?

BTW I think DEI also makes a similar unit that works with factory remotes...called the Hornet 700T or something. Sounds like your problem is solved but perhaps good info for the future.
