As of 12/2022. the 2G phone network dies. That means Onstar dies on my mirror. Is there any way to "update" to 4LTE or 5G in the car to continue to use the mirror buttons rather than the Onstar Phone App they brought out?
If not, I'm thinking about swapping out the C7 mirror from the Camaro that doesn't have the buttons but does have the auto-dimming function and get rid of the useless buttons on the C7 mirror.. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1605608536

It's my understanding that if you currently have an OnStar subscription, they would offer an up-dated OnStar module for your car. If you don't have a subscription, then I think you're out of luck. The OnStar module, is in the back of the car, under the carpet by the passenger side cubby, and that's what everything goes through, so just replacing the mirror itself wouldn't do you any good.
Seems counterintuitive that they would only do this for. active subscriptions... I'm in the same boat, but just bought my car and never had a chance to subscribe to OnStar... The. GM website is pitching a cellphone app to replace it for us older car owners.
Just read that for those with an active OnStar account an over the air updates started in Feb 2022 (earlier for some cars). Would have to assume if you had an active account and it is still working that you are good to go.

I think what he's saying is that if OnStar goes away, he will replace his mirror with the Camaro mirror to keep the auto-dimming features but remove the OnStar buttons.

Correct.
I've been offered zero options by OnStar to upgrade the system to continue functioning. My only option from them is to load an APP onto my iPhone and use that to communicate with OnStar but the buttons would be useless with the APP. I've been running OnStar since I purchased my 2007 and continued with my 2014.

I have spoke on the phone with OnStar and they said all vehicles 2013 and older the system will not work after the end of the year. The representative told me that originally GM and OnStar was going to try to make some type of upgrade module but that didn't go through so the only option you have is install their app.
So no more OnStar for me either on my 2008 Z51!

Well I never had it activated on my car anyway, so no big loss.
