Default Alternative Component Speakers

I'm looking to do a set of Component Speakers (6 1/2, 4" mid and 1" twet) for the doors in my vette and was looking at a set of Boston Pros for around $750. Do I have any other options for a good set of speakers/ I was wondering if I could save a little money by goin with MB Quart or Alpine but I haven't heard them before. I did hear a JL set compared to the Boston set and liked the Bostons much much more! I everyone hears things differently but I would like some different opinions.

Thanks

CDT's HD series will kill both of those speakers in my opinion.
And are way less...

the euro's.. havent heard these.. they must be orgasmic, http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CDTES620

I havent heard better sounding voices than the CDT's. They are incredibly smooth... and I've heard some nice sets, all of which easily outperform BA and MBQ (imo)... and the CDT's are definately the best value. They get loud, too. Read my review on them against the Focal Utopia 165w, which I believe is the best raw sound quailty set available.... which retails for $1100

I have not heard the CDT's... but I respect Kale's opinion....

I am happy with the BA's. I have the pro series 5.5.... very nice.

but pricy.

I am not impressed with the Alpines.

That's pricey for the pros. Is that installed? http://www.tms-electronics.com has them for $545. I like mine but you really need a sub to go with them. Also, look at Focal and honestly, you really don't need a 3 way setup, you may also want to look at a few good pairs like focal, A/D/S, and some higher end MB Quarts to name a few. Listen to them yourself and decide what sounds best using music you bring, preferably with a female vocalist as this is the hardest sound to reproduce.

What kind of sound are you looking for? Realistic range with moderate mid-bass, or more full range with added subwoofer?

I just left my partners stereo shop and we did some sound tests with 3 sets of high end speaker componets..
Focal Utopias..great sound as expected

CDT's...nice but not focals (imo)

PHD's... BEST OF THE BUNCH...for a few reasons....1/2 the price of focals not being a consideration...smoothest cleanest sound at rated rms...
great looking mids built like a BSH.. tweeters were as good as focals but couldnt go as high as CDT's (as expected considering materials/style of speaker) but much better in the range desiged to be used in..
the aluminum cones are very well made..check um out for yourself before buying any is all i suggest... their factory is next door to Focal in Italy...

Did anyone ever hear any reviews of Focals by europians?...they are thought of in Europe as Pioneers are in America...

Which CDT? Whats a PHD? Im a member of many car audio forums, and NO ONE has ever mentioned them.

What's the name of the stereo shop, and where is it? Rare enough to find a CDT or Focal dealer.

Focal is french, not Italian.
And no, Focal is not the pioneer of Europe.
Any half decent tweeter can play 20,000. If you say you heard higher than that, I'm going to have to hand shovel to everyone in the room.

ah , i foudn PHD's website.

12db passive crossovers... That seems pretty weak, but ok, all passive crossovers suck... just most are 24.. but CDT's are insane, 60 or something.

Says its a fiberglass cone. That's cool...
Silk tweeter, good for smooth sound..
Butyl... its a surroudn alright..
Some have neodymium magnets, very cool..

Specs page..
6.1 set:
80 watts max handling... wtf? Thats like 30-50 rms...
64hz 'roll off frequency" okaaaay...

The 6.3 takes 150 watts "max".. 75 watts rms, thats not bad.

They seem like a fairly average component set, comparable to JL XR and Crystals.. but most high end sets handle more rms power than their rated MAX handling...
http://www.phd.it/web/PHD.html

Id like to hear a set. NEver heard of such a beast.

Cant find them on ebay either.

Please tell us more.

I wish I could provide you with a set for your educated comparison..,
Im really not a PHD sales rep...but I believe that we used a speaker rated much higher than the 6.3..
the shop is called Audio Innovations in So. Cal.
This was the first time i saw this line of speakers anywhere..
Dont misunderstand my post as i am mearly giving you my opinion,, and stating from what i heard and saw in comparison to the other 2 lines respectively,, they are seriously worth taken a closer look before putting out the big money for the any others...I wish I had seen these before i bought the 8 focals im presently using... but my focals sound unbelievable, so im not complaining,,,only my wallet is..
Being new to this or any forum of this type,, I assumed that some personal observations was welcome input...correct me if i am wrong,, well heck,, I guess you did correct me...Ill try to be more tech and informative should there be a next time.. thank you

Is this related to Audio Innovations in Roseville, CA?

I still havent found anyone who has heard of these speakers, I'm dying to hear them.

Were the CDT's Cl, HD, or Euro that you heard?

I couldnt find a metal coned speaker on their site.

Look up local retailers and listen to all of YOUR canidates. The pick what sounds bets to you! Not the salesman, not me, not the rest of the world. Pick the ones your budget and ear can live with. Good luck.

PS, lately, I prefer Scan Speak mids and Micro Precision Tweets.

This Audio Innovations is in Glendora, Ca. and no relation to the Roseville Store..

Im really not for sure which CDT's were used,, but i have to believe he went apples for apples,, then again,, he is a salesman and with the customer right there,, who knows...

I do hope your able to find a set to listen to ,, I would very much like to hear your review of this line..
