Default A few 08 C6 Base Stereo questions.

Hey guys… I know this has been probably asked and answered a thousand times, but it’s still confusing for this old guy.
I have an 2008 Base C6 with base stereo (Delco) no steering wheel controls. I upgraded the steering wheel from a 2010 C6 with all steering wheel controls. Install was very easy. I have no response from buttons which wasn’t totally unexpected, although paddle shifters work as expected. Here’s where I’m confused. One post said I would have to change the radio designation from U65 to U66 in the programming option with a Tech2 and then it would actually work. I’ve seen multiple posts about adding three wire harness but I think my 08 would actually have that harness from factory. Hoping that’s true,
so any help or advice would help. Just for context I do have a used Nav unit from a 2011 coming from the west coast but just wondered if I missed something completely in my readings. I do realize that an aftermarket Nav unit is a much better route, but just trying to keep it more OEM for the current moment. Thanks in advance for any replies. Cheers

I'm not sure your car would have the correct harness for the steering wheel controls, you may have to add the three wires to get it to work, and they'll only work with a Bose or Navigation system. You could look at the pins on the main harness to the stereo. If you have wires in the two pins shown in the photo then it should work, if you don't then you'll need to add the wires.

The pin numbers for the steering wheel controls are pins A6 and A7 shown here.

If you do net a used Navigation system, it needs to be from a 07+ in order for the steering wheel controls to work with it, you'll also have to have it married to your cars VIN with a Tech 2, so it won't just be plug and play unless this is done.

Thanks for the great info. I do have a Nav coming from a 2011. And I also have a tech2 scanner on the way as well. But I will delve into the wire harness this weekend at first chance. Thanks again 👍

No problem, glad to help. If you don't have the wires in the pins I mentioned, I can send you some info on how to add them.

This will show you what you need to do. So since you have a 2008, you should already have the correct clock spring in your car, so alls you should need to do is add the three wires to your connector for the clock spring and run them to your head unit connector. Let me know if you have any questions.
