I'm collecting subwoofers..
I just put in a pair of MS-80's in my truck and observed:
1) Toyota trucks rattle more than vettes when the sub hits.
2) A pair of MS-80's 8" subs are ALMOSt as loud as my 5.25" midranges playing bass.
Oh well.. they are taking up room and providing NO benefit...
Another pair of subs going in the closet and filed under 'big waste of money"

Are you sure that your enclosure is air tight? I have heard that those MS-80s are very finiky when it comes to sealed enclosures. I has to be AIR TIGHT.

But seriously, it sounds like an enclosure problem. Those 8's should easily outpower 5.25's, especially under 60 Hz.

Well, I'm only listening to ONE at the moment, and I may be underpowering it.
I gave it some listening time today... and noticed that this sub is more musical than my IDQ 10".. not by much, but it is.... But what REALLY impressed me is it played lower than the IDQ.
I think these might be alright afterall.. I dont need headache bass, I need bass that fits perfectly with the music... I just cant make them.. hidden.. at all.. like i originally wanted to. :(
These are very quiet subs... hmn... Ill try running 120watts per side to them tonight from my 'big amp'
we'll see.

Well, I'll give them more juice, and a week to break in, then we'll see what they really sound like. I may get rid of them just because I can't hide them in the back... Toyota didnt give me a lot of options.

The subs LOOK like flea market subs, they have no bling. But when you look at it closely, it loosk like a SOLID sub.

I figured "futz it!" and bridged my amp, providing a total of 230 watts to that 100-watt-handling CDt-MS80... Doubling the opwer should net me a noticable increase, and quadrupling DEFINATELY should.. but it didn't. Weird. Teh MS80 does shrug that amount of power off, though :-)

I don't know much about these, but 8's do have their limits... the only 8's I have ever been impressed by are the Pro Series BA's. A buddy has a pair in his Dodge Dakota... and they are soooo smooth.

Well, after reading this, I may just go with four Jl 8W0's. Can't argue with going with what you know. :nonod: Although it would be a lot cheaper just to go with 2 10" drivers. Hmmmmm.......... :rolleyes:
