I have replaced my Bose head unit in my Z06 with a Kenwood digital receiver and installed JL Audio C2 525X speakers in the rear and C2 350X in the doors. I also installed the harness to allow the Bose subwoofers to work. It has been like this for about a year and it is time to get rid of the Bose subwoofers. It just doesn"t sound right. I was thinking of installing the mounting plate and JL Audio C2 componet system in the doors and keep the C2 525X in the rear and a 45 watt Alpine amp behind the head unit. Has anybody gone with this arangement and if so, did it meet your expectations? I am not an "audiophile" per say. My 2006 Monte Carlo SS has a Kenwood unit and Clarion "R" speakers front and rear and I am happy with the sound. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Save the wave!
Looks like you're on the right path for better sound.
In my opinion, if you truly care about the sound quality, ditch the Bose door speakers for a good 6.5" component set.
Ditch the rear speakers completely. Power the door component set via their own dedicated amp, not by the head unit.
Get a dedicated subwoofer for the bass which should also be powered by its own amp. or get a single multi-channel amp that powers everything.
Trying to get good SQ from an aftermarket HU with stock Bose speakers being powered by the HU only leads to disappointment.
Awesome post and right on the money. I thought I was the only one that ditched the rear speakers!!!
Although I found the C5 HU to be pretty damn good and used the amp to fill in what was missing. Won any Iasca SQ contest I entered.
Then spend some time understanding how the sub fills in the higher lows. It is not about the giant thump but filling in what is missing at the low end and having it cross over to fill what the woofer misses. Do that and you will be amazed at how awesome the system is.

Do I "NEED" the separate amp for the component set in the door, or does it just improve the sound quality a bit? My car is LOUD, so I'm not worried about sound quality. I just need something better than the factory setup - without completely eliminating the bass from the door speakers. Thanks
I ditched all the bose..went with alpine head with the alpine Amp that goes behind the head unit...focal components in the doors... jls in the rear.just for fill.
vette nuts sub in the corner with a 500 watt Kenwood Amp for it.
That's as far as I'm going and it sounds great!

Were there any clearance issues with mounting the C2 350X's in the doors? Crutchfield says they are too high and will be crushed by the stock grills in the door.

No problems at all. I had a stereo shop do the work. I recall that they blocked the bass in the speakers to act somewhat like a tweeter and the other door speakers were fine. I do forget the size of the other JL Audio door speakers, but everything sounds fine without any amp. At least for now.???
