I've seen too many cheap amazon back up cameras fail. Don't get me wrong I buy a lot of cheap amazon crap lol. I also live in a wet nasty environment. Those cameras don't like rain and snow.
In this case for my C5 I with went with the higher end Echomaster PCAM-150 lip mount back up camera as I want high quality and a stealthy er installation. Not a fan of license plate mounts.
Echomaster from what I understand makes a lot of the OEM cameras.
As the above poster said you don't relay the camera. All that wiring is handled through your head unit.
Also what looks like wire ahead of the camera is a temporary mic cable. has nothing to do with the camera. The camera wiring is completely out of view. Like I said. Very factory in appearance.
We have had a Kenwood DNX994S in our '99 for about 5 years and use an Audiovox ACA800 as the back up camera and an Audiovox ACA801 as the forward facing camera. The cameras are probably middle of the road between going lower-end budget or upper-end budget, and have been exposed to heat and cold temps, heavy rain, and freezing temperatures, and have always worked fine.
Installation was pretty straightforward, and if the camera installation and wiring instructions are not very helpful try YouTube. You will probably find at least 5-6 videos, if not more.
Best wishes with your project!
love my front & rear camera setup in my rear view mirror. had this kind of setup for years now and it's been great. many of the new OEM cars are now utilizing such a system including the c8
Hi, I'm thinking of going this route with the PCAM-150. Did you mount between the deck lid release button and key lock? I would like the camera centered as much as possible.

Hello new guy.
It is mounted dead center literally right in between the two license plate lights.
If you remove the license plate holder / backup light assembly you can reach your hands right up in there to work in the area.
Like others have mentioned, don't cheap out on them. Like the old saying goes "you get what you pay for". I personally bought the Pioneer cameras for my Pioneer system, which are kinda pricy, but you can get a good one for less. I suggest going front and rear cameras, the front comes in handy when pulling up to parking blocks, to avoid damaging your front end.
Don't overlook the Kenwood cameras, their newer DNX & DMX HU's actually can control views, show split screens and monitor/review one of their dash cams. Best specs I've seen so getting a couple of them.

Can you tell us what equipment you are using here? It sounds like something I'd like to replicate.
Thanks in advance.
