I have removed the Bose Gold from my 90 Convert and replaced it with an after market system. I rewired the complete system including new speakers etc. I ran the wire from the stereo that controls the power antenna to the back of the car where the wires from the antenna comes into the back compartment. There is a green wire and orange wire attached to the antenna. What do i connect to ??
Previously the antenna would go up as soon as the ignition was on, regardless of whether the stereo was on. (Although the stereo has not worked in the 2 yrs i have owned the car). One of the problems i have is that the cars are converted from left to right hand drive when they are imported and the wiring does not always make a lot of sense. Have i bypassed the control that makes the antenna go up and down ??
Any help is appreciated... it's disappointing to replace the whole system and then have it not function due to the antenna !!!
Thanks
Steve

Re: Replaced Bose, need help with Power Antenna (sm90)
G'day Mate! :seeya
There should be a wiring harness that unplugged from the stock HU. It has your power antenna lead on it (wire color should be Pink/Blue). You should only have to plug the aftermarket harness (if you don't have one get one) to the stock harness and be done with the power antenna lead.
Now when they convert the cars to wrong...err...I mean right hand drive do they replace all the harnesses too? It sounds like you are running all new power antenna wire to the back to the antenna relay itself. I'm not sure why you would need to do that unless there is a problem with the wiring to begin with. What was there before you disconnected it? There should be a relay back there that the antenna wire from the harness goes to then the relay is wired to the power antenna motor.
Give us some more detail on why you are running new wire to the back and maybe we can have that problem solved flat out like a lizard drinking! :D
Re: Replaced Bose, need help with Power Antenna (The^Nomad)
Thanks
I did find a relay at the back of the car just before the wires go through the back corner of the car,,, however it had been previously bypassed. I have no idea where the wire that was bypassing the relay came from, which is why i decided to rewire. Previously the antenna would come up while ever the ignition was on regardless of if the stereo was switched on (even though the stereo didn't work). So the Antenna was incorrectly wired up previously.
Assuming there is nothing of the old harness remaining, what do i have to do to get the antenna to operate off the new stereo.
Thanks again for your help,,, it's appreciated

Re: Replaced Bose, need help with Power Antenna (sm90)
I'd reuse the relay or add your own. You can test the antenna easily enough to find out what wire makes it go up and down. You do need the relay though as the radio antenna output is not strong enough to power the antenna, just trigger the relay, and you'll blow fuses or the radio if you try to use it without the relay.
BTW, If you see Mel Gibson filming the new Road Warrior movie, tell him to make sure to include a C4! :auto:
Re: Replaced Bose, need help with Power Antenna (sm90)
my 89 service manual says from antenna motor the white is for up and the dark green is power and the gray is up.these wires run to the relay.coming from relay the orange wire goes to courtesy/clock fuse for constant power and the pink is going to radio which causes relay to respond.
In your case I would think the orange is power to relay and greeen to radio.
Re: Replaced Bose, need help with Power Antenna (vert2go89)
Thanks everyone for your help. I found the problem... it was a blown fuse. As i mention in many cases the wiring does not make sense and the antenna was on a completely different circuit to what it should have been. That is why i didn't detect the blown fuse.
Thanks again !!
