I am looking for a part # of a dash kit that will fit in a 91. I am putting in a single din HU and will use a pocket.
I know they just released a new one which is shown on their website, but nobody in townhas it yet, and they cant even find it in their computers or catalogs???#$*&^@%!!!
I know there is one that fits pretty good with just minor grinding, but I did several searches and could not find the part #
I got mine fron best buy. It wasn't a GM one. I don't think they make one. It was a generic din sized pocket. I think the package listed Ford, Volvo, and Toyota. It did take a little dremel work, but it mated up fine. I moved the pocket over the radio. It made it easier to secure the deck and prevent skipping and in the upper position my knuckles hit the buttons sometimes in hard shifting. :flag
Looks great! Did the Metra and Alpine bolt onto the old GM radio bracket? (I have a 93 with dbl din). How was the fit...any gaps or filing required? Thanks in advance. Keith
Unfortunately, there are no usable brackets from the stock radio. You have to fabricate a frame. I used a metal strap approach, wrapping perforated garage door opener bracket around the metra pocket and the din sleeve, then screwing the metra brackets to the strap. Also used side standard radio bracket, cut to fit level, screwed to the radio and the pocket. This gives rear support...the whole unit fills the space as a complete, connected unit .
I also dremmeled the rear of the plastic pocket to allow depth in the rear of the unit. Careful, use your hand up behind the box to feel for the harness above it, running to the idiot light panel above the radio. Cut a horizontal line, dead in the middle of the circle where the stock pin guide hole is. This supports the rear of the Alpine.
Finally, use computer hard drive shipping foam to fill in the gaps on the bottem and to act as a base. The entire assembly floats on foam, not one skip to date, even over speed bumps. I packed the foam so it is real tight. The stock bezel actually holds it in but it doesn't move.
I was happy with the results too but it does take time and patience. :smash:
