I've had an aftermarket head unit for a while, and recently I read that the adapter boxes they sell to make the aftermaket units work with the factory Bose system is by driving the door twiddlers and rear speakers off the headunit and the door subs off the integrated amp with the Bose control unit box. I thought to myself, great, I can throw in rear speakers no problem, and drive the front 6.5" and tweeters off the twiddler wiring without having to touch anything else. The post I read suggested the twiddler gets the full frequency range with these adapter units, but after having installed everything, I feel like there's a crossover cutting the bass to the front twiddlers from the factory. I put the same speakers in my wife's Mustang, and they thump pretty good. In mine, the system sounds shrill and hollow.
I am capable of running all new wiring if I have to, but I really don't want to. Can anyone confirm that this is likely the problem before I dig into it?
I've looked at that before when I was trying to see if I could get away with this, but couldn't really understand all of it. I won't be messing around with jumpers and such. If I have to rewire, I'll just tear out all the old stuff and run fresh wire. You know, for weight savings. lol
Replacing Bose in a C6 was so much easier, removing that amp gave you a space for the new amp in the footwell. Not many places for a new amp in a C5 unless you move the seat up or put it in the back, thus I will likely live with the Bose.
BUT, if you put in a short chassis HU (like a Kenwood DMX-958XR) there may be room behind that & the AC for an amp.

I was looking into getting an amp, then I saw how much amps are. Jeeeezus, I'll just drive them off my headunit and run an amp turnon wire if I ever feel like throwing in a sub.
So, I pointed the back tweeters I put in away from my head today. It still doesn't song how I want, but it's A LOT better. I think I chose a bad spot, and they're overpowering the big speakers. Still going to rewire because knowing there's an unnecessary rats nest back there annoys me, and I'm not convinced the front speakers are doing as much as they should.
