I have the stock radio with single CD player. Recently, I played a CD and noticed that the sound appeared scratchy. Subsequently a message appeared on the display showing "E R R". I then tried a second CD and noticed the same problem. I looked in my owners manual and among other things recommended that I ensure the CD was clean. I've since wiped both off and took them inside the house and tried playing them on a home stereo and they both played fine.
The last recommendation in the owners manual was to press the recall button on the unit. I tried that and it appeared that this corrected the problem. However, I did not listen to the first song on each CD in their entirety and assumed the problem was corrected. Next day, I got in the car inserted a CD and after about 30 seconds of normal play, the scratching sound began again. I removed the CD and reinserted it but this time only the E R R message appeared with no music. It gave me the same message when I inserted the second CD.
Does anyone know if there is a quick fix to this problem short of removing the entire deck to repair/replace? I realize in this day and age CDs have gone by the wayside and I also have an adaptor that I can plug into the cigarette lighter that allows me to play music from my phone. If there is no easy fix, I will just leave it as is as I can still play my music.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Don't give up if you really want to play CDs w the orig HU, the CD-HU might just need a deep-cleaning, lube or minor repair. Seems a recent post named a CD repair place, so do a search for that. A simple single-din HU swap might be just $250 though and give you full connectivity.
