I have a 00 targa that I bought ~7 months ago. When I got it the door speakers were terrible. The car has two 12” subs in the back and a Kenwood head unit. Without prior knowledge of the Bose setup, I bought two 6.5” kicker speakers. I came to the conclusion that my in-door Bose amps were dead. After getting advice from GeekSquad, I bypassed all of the factory door setup (sub/amp) and directly soldered the new speakers to the grey and brown wires (driver side). I think passenger side was a teal wire. Since then I have very little sound coming out of the door speakers and think I might need a dedicated amp for the door speakers. Any advice? Thanks.
You should be getting some sound from that connection. But any sound you get will be EQ'ed for a smaller speaker. Left Front Speaker Wire (+): Tan Left Front Speaker Wire (-): Gray Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Light Green Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Dark Green
I don't believe you can wire door speakers that way in the c5. You'll need to power the kicker door speakers directly by the Kenwood head unit.
By the way if you want a real stereo system that won't leave you wanting more, just pull out the Bose crap and use a dedicated aftermarket amplifier.
Ok cool the latter is probably what I will do. I have two 12” subs with an amp. Would you just get another separate amp and power the four main speakers with it? Meaning head unit>amp>speaker 1, 2, 3, 4?
apologies, I am a bit new to the audio scene.

Appreciate it, yeah those were the wires I used. true, yeah I am getting very faint sound, also presumably due to the deletion of the Bose in-door amp. Just trying to figure out how to get proper sound out of those speakers.

If you plug in the original 4" speaker, do you get full sound or just the faint sound that you describe?
The door amp is only connected to the door sub.

aha, makes sense. I do not have the original speakers anymore. 😬
