It sounds EXACTLY like when you're listening to the radio and go under a mountain, a shaky, staticy break up.
Okay, easy solution. It's the RCA's? Nope
Replaced...
It's the connections at the amp or xovers? Nope...
Its the new DSP unit I put in the car, the front outs are just poorly set to the pcb! Switched to rear outs... same problem.
Could it possibly be my ARC amp??? I dont think so... tried another amp.. problem persists.
Heres the kicker:
I swap R & L RCA's as standard trouble shooting, but cant get it to make the noise again like that to see if it's moved. It does it when it wants to.
but
1) It NEVER does it while parked
2) ONLY does it while the vehicle is in gear and moving.
*Ive shaken/wiggled everything but couldnt cause the problem
3) Cant be engine noise of any sort, i revv'd it with no effect.
The only thing left.. is a bad connection at the right tweeter... you guys think?
Most the time it sounds fine, but then for 10-20 seconds it sounds like pure butt.
Re: Help me track down this intermittent static... (Nevermind)
That's one of the problems I used to get. Does it happen when you play CD's, radio, or both? Mine used to happen only when playing CD's and would even have problems and spit out the disc for some reason.
Re: Help me track down this intermittent static... (Lord Odin)
Process of elimination. Sounds like a pinching RCA but you said they were replaced. Could it be the RCA lead coming out from the deck pinched? If it happens on one side and you suspect the tweeter, try switching the speaker leads at the amp. If its before the amp, the problem will switch sides. If its after the amp, it will stay the same. :skep:
Re: Help me track down this intermittent static... (92TripleBlack)
Actuallly.. there's no RCA's coming out of the deck. There's this thing (similar to a PS/2 cable but square) that literally LOCKS into the back of the deck... then that cable runs to my DSP under the seat.
I did switch the rca's from R to L to see if it would move sides... and the problem didnt happen after that. I switch it back... and there it was again. Totally bizzarre.
my next steps would be... putting a portable cd player in as the source for the amplifier,
and maybe using my Focal tweeter on the right side to see if it does it.

Re: Help me track down this intermittent static... (Nevermind)
The problem definitely isn't in the connection from the head unit to the DSP box. That's a digital fiber optic connector. It's either perfect, or you get no sound at all. My first guess would be an intermittent short, but after thinking about it, I thought of a much likelier possibility. Is any of your wiring run near any speaker magnets, or any other fixed magnetic field? If it is, when the wire vibrates, it will induce current in the line. This may be what you're hearing.
