I have a 1980, and am looking at upgrading my upgraded sound system.
Currently I have a New Head unit in the console, a 150W, 4-channel amp in the passenger side, behind the seat storage box, and a custom-built speaker box holding a pair of 6x9 speaks. To put it bluntly - it leaves a LOT to be desired.
Last weekend, at my daughter's softball tournament, one of the parent's brought in a JBL Xtreme 3 wireless speaker to do the walkup music for the players. DAMN - That thing sounded great! It gave me an idea.....
Looking at removing the amp and speaker box. Mounting two (linked) JBL Xtreme speakers under the cargo cover. Installing a USB charging station/ports in the passenger storage box, running charging cables to the speakers, wired to be 'On' only while the car is on..
when done, I should be able to play music on the speakers using my phone app, and should still be able to run radio channels through the head unit (bluetooth connection).
Sounds pretty easy, and those JBLs should be more than enough for the Vette. Whatcha Think?
Head unit may have Bluetooth, but probably just a receiver and not a transmitter.
The rest sounds doable if that's what floats your boat.
I would spend those $600 or so dollars on something else. But that's just me.
I found a really good deal (sub $200) on a speaker (JBL Xtreme 3), and it is on the way. The one speaker they had out on the softball field, and the display/test speakers in various stores gives me hope that my efforts aren't in vain.
We shall se. If nothing else it will be interesting. Ya know?
Have a second JBL Xtreme 3 on the way. Did a test with the first one and it sounds really good in the car. Looking forward to getting the second one.
Now I just have to figure out how to mount them under the cargo cover. There are two strap hangers on top..... and that's about it for factory-stuff mounting.
Any ideas?

something like this would work well.
you can get them made out of plastic also to keep the cost down.
