C6: Replacing (second) blown BOSE 10 inch Door speaker?
My passenger side 10 inch Bose speaker is shot. My driver's side blew couple years back and replaced it with another used Bose 10 inch.
The BOSE are out of production and to be honest, never loved the stock speakers sound in my car anyways.
I have a Kenwood DDX3 Head Unit.
Can I just get a set of 6.5 inch lower speakers from Crutchfield? Doesn't make sense to me to replace the blown speaker with another used one when I can get new speakers.
I do NOT need top of the line, just want to be able to have my sound back. Car has Bullets and headers so it's loud, just want clean stereo sound without having to change Amp, etc. I have been reading up on the Audio section, but audio is not my specialty. I know BOSE 10 inch uses a built in amp as they are only 1 ohm, so would the 6.5 inch replacements even work?
Sorry for alot of questions. Just want to be able to drive and hear my music without that brutal distortion of the blown 10 inch. (adjusted my balance , but that sounds crappy as well.)
I have a set from my 13 GS. $50 plus shipping and PayPal fees. Very low miles on them.
Oh, if you did not love Bose, you will definitely hate going to a 6.5" after market. Almost half the cone area equals less bass. Also 4 ohm will make your amp output less power.
Thanks crusher1, but if you closely, RockAuto only has the regular 10 inch speakers (U66) I believe the Bose are U65 and are not the same. Unless I am wrong?

Thanks for the honestly, I was wondering how good 6.5 would sound compared to a 10 inch. I can get used ones from my local shop, was just thinking better to get new ones if possible. What about getting the 2 piece component set that Crutchfield sells? They have several 6.5 inch with a tweeter. Is that still going to be crappier than the BOSE 10 inch?
You can replace them with 6.5s but you'll have to add an amp for the 6.5s. I do not think there is a way to hook the factory amp up to aftermarket speakers.
The process of adding an aftermarket amp has been well documented. Being as you already have an aftermarket head unit, you would just use its trigger wire for the aftermarket amp should you choose to use one.
You could add a small amp just for the 6.5s and still use OEM everything else. I added two tweeters to my dash (I installed a 2012 dash that has the extra tweeters in my 2009) and a small amp for just them. I am using the OEM amp but all my speakers (except the 10" door speakers) have been replaced. I was running an Alpine ILX407 but recently installed the MAX-DIN head unit.

what year is your C6? You'll have the same problem. A 6.5" will not sound bad, but at the same time, will not sound better due to having less power to work with and not being able to move as much air as the 10". If you already replaced the head unit, then adding an amplifier should not be that difficult. I've never heard of anyone just replacing the 10 with 6.5 and being happy. You can add a powered sub in the back if you decide to replace with a 6.5. Everyone is different, try it, you may be the one that says it sounds fine. Adding sound deadening will also help.
I just replaced the Bose amp with 2 aftermarket ones, one for the tweeters and the rear speakers, and one for the subs in the doors. I put 6.5s in the doors and while it all sounds much better than before, if I am ever going into the doors again I will replace them. My car isn't loud so I don't have much of an issue with the sound but I know i am leaving something on the table with these smaller speakers. I have a thread here about replacing them and using the Bose wiring. It wasn't difficult.

I have replaced them with 6.5inch Audison Prima speakers. After doing a TON of adjustments of my sound settings on my Kenwood DDX3 HU, the sound is MUCH cleaner, BUT am missing the deep Base from going from 10 inch to 6.5. I will be doing a small sub in the back as recommended.
