Dynamat
How many of you guys are some kind of sound deadening material before installing your aftermarket speakers, subs? Is it really worth it? Thanks in advanced
What most refer to as "Sound deadening material" doesn't really act as a sound barrier. It's a dampener, and reduces panel resonance. It will obviously block some sound, but thats not really its purpose. You need closed cell foam or something similar for that. Fiberglass, etc. Worth it to dampen? Yes, for two reasons:
1) It reduces panel resonance! It can get rid of some nasty "ringing" that you may hear in some music.
2) It helps seal the door so the destructive backwave doesn't hit the frontwave and cause cancellation.
I use Edead in my truck, it was fairly easy to install. And cheap.

Re: Dynamat (Kale)
Referring to the "mastic" type sound dampening material, yes, like Kale said it will reduce resonant vibration and depending on the brand of dampener you get, the "foil" side has many metallic flakes in it (some brands have more than others) that actually deflect sound waves. It absorbs the resonant frequencies and converts them to heat thereby reducing vibration, blocking outside sound waves, and increasing inside decibel levels. Your music will be much louder at lower volume levels. I personally gained well over 3db after dampening and the cars ride so quiet you wouldn't believe they are Corvette interiors. Of course I also used foam padding in key areas as well. No rattles at all, but you can still hear some road noise throught the clear top and hatch glass. No way to stop that though.
Is it worth it to dampen? In a word…yepper. :yesnod:
