I have been looking at the options and reviews on double DIN head units to put in my 2002 convertible. I would like something with wireless Apple Carplay in a medium price range; say $400-700. I always go overboard on research and can normally work it down to one or two items that make sense. But this one is driving my batty! It seems like very unit; Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, JVC, Sony, etc has almost as many bad reviews as good. I would really like to install this once and not have to mess with it again.
Does anyone have any real world experience and have recommendations on a good unit that has performed well without having constant glitches? Would sure appreciate the input.

The manufacturers you list are all main players in the aftermarket audio game, and in general, all produce good units, which, spec for spec, are pretty much the same. One of the biggest differences is in User Interface Design. This can make or break a unit and unfortunately, is highly different from user to user. In my own search, I had always preferred Kenwood in the past but when searching for a unit for my C6, I absolutely HATED the Kenwood user interface and ended up going with a Pioneer unit.
I suggest that you go to a local dealer or two, and actually USE the interface for the head unit(s) you are considering. I think this will help you more than asking users on a forum which unit is better since opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one and they are all different.
Wound up getting an Alpine ILX-W770. Got the Vettenuts double DIN console, backup camera, Axxess interface, antenna adapter, shorty antenna and emergency brake bypass. Hopefully can get to it this weekend.
I chose the Alpine ILX-770. It has wireless apple and android setups. And I chose it because it’s a shallow mount so I have their 450w amp bolted to the back of it.
