Looking to upgrade the stereo in my c5. I've got a HU already - Alpine CDA-7983. After extensive searching through the forums I've decided on the CDT HD-62 for the front, abandoning the rear, and a JL 12w3 for my sub. Now I need something to power all this good stuff.
I've never used an amp to power anything but a sub before, so my knowledge is limited. I have used rockford amps and been pleased with them, but like i said i've been searching the forum, and haven't found many positive comments about rockford stuff in general. However, the rockford prices are too tempting not to consider. I see many people happy with Phoenix Gold and JL audio, so I'm looking into those. I'd rather not spend an arm and a leg for this stuff. Anyone have any suggestions?
JBL 1200.1, 1200 watts at 2 Ohm class D for 250$.
This is bang for the buck class D amp.
Check out caraudioforum and you will see all good thing about this amp.
Just my .02$

1200 watts is waaayyy to much power for a 12w3... hell a 1/3 of that power is to much...

Oh really, I thought we never feel enough power :D
Then go with JBL 600.1, 600 watts at 2 Ohm for less than 200$.
This is my .01$ :D

also 600watts will void the warranty on that sub...
Assuming the 12w3 is wired at 4 ohms it will only get 300watts from the JBL600.1 which is ideal. However, I agreee with metal wolf on that Hifonics amp. It looks like 125watts for each of the components and 250 for the sub. For the price, power, and ease of installation it seems like a great way to go. I just have no experience with the brand.
That Hifonics amp looks like it might be perfect for this setup. Their website claims that it puts out 2 x 400w , so if I bridged the rear i'd get 2 x 125 for the front and 1 x 400w for the sub correct?
the comparable us acoustics amps - the USX2150 (150 x 2) for $160, and the USX800D (400 x 1) for $240 add up to the $400 that the Hifonics costs.
This leads to my question, which one is the better amp?
assuming the SQ and power are about equal, I'd probably go with the Hifonics due to the ease of installation and less required space.
ok, i've been looking over phoenix gold prices on ebay... a used zx475 would probably cost around the same as the hifonics, maybe a little less. however, earlier you said that 80 watts per channel wouldnt be enough for the components, so I assume that the 4 x 75 @4ohm from the PG wouldn't be enough for them. unless of course they're underrated, are they?
