I am completely re-doing my install and since I had the entire interior ripped apart, I figure now is as good of time as any to add XM to my ALPINE 7892.
Here are some pics:
This is a shot of the XM antenna attached to the rear frame rail. I removed the inner taillight lens to access this area.
I ran the wiring for the antenna, power, and interconnect cable under the passenger seat. Disregard that red wire.
Here is the final location of the XM tuner under the pass. seat. I used velco strips to keep it from sliding around. It is very light and small, so I don't think that it will move around at all.
I'm trying to get some info together to install XM in my C5, but I have a few questions for you:
1 - Where do you find the ACC lead?
2 - Where did you run your power lead from, the battery? Where did you ground it?
2 - With the unit being under the passenger seat, does it clear the power seat controls? What about cooling issues?
Well, the XM tuner doesn't consume much power at all. It only has a 7.5 amp fuse. I tapped into the yellow constant power wire that came from the HU. The accessory wire (12+ switched) came from the wiring harness in the passenger fuse compartment area. This is the same wire that I use for the HU 12+ switched as well. The XM wire harness has a short lead for a ground that I attached to one of the bolts that is holding the parking brake boot to the center consol. Just check the bolt with a meter to make sure it is a good ground.
One mistake that I did make was switch the switch on the bottom of the HU to aux/eq. That switch is suppose to be on "normal" and the AInet cable goes on the "output" side of the XM tuner (assuming you don't have a Alpine CD changer).
I don't have a power passenger seat, so clearance was not a problem. I don't know the exact specs, but if I had to guess, I'd say it would clear the motors in the seat.
