I was on the highway today with the top down doing around 80mph. I noticed it was a bit loud so I tried turning up the radio more. Drove for a min and noticed it wasn't louder, so I tried to turn it up again. Nothing. I look down and the head unit's volume is maxxed out. :cuss That's IT??? :banghead: I'm running 65x4 from my Alpine 340 but apparently its not nearly enough. I've only had the radio working on this car for 2-3 weeks and today was the first time I got to max out the volume. I'm pissed. I'm going back to the place I bought it from cause they told me it would be plenty loud. I'm gonna return this POS and upgrade to the 540 (100x4) or go even bigger. I'm tired of being able to yell over this thing. :smash:
Yea if thats all you are pushing I would go for a 800 or 1000 watts on a 4 channel and just worry about upgrading you speakers..Just wait till the end of this weekend I will have some photos for you with 2 12's poweredby a 1200watt x2 and 2 3 way 6x9s with 800.. Cause power is good. Your little amp must be cranked out and at times will hear engine revs or to loud could be not clear...
I got my chrome sawblades in the mail today...Perfect...
Right now, I'm running 500 peak on the 340. If I get the 540, I'll be getting 800 watts peaked. I think that should be fine. If not, then I'll just have to go bigger. Shouldn't have to upgrade the speakers anytime soon though if I keep going on 4 channels. They can take like 330 each (I think the 6x9's take more) and are only getting like 80 right now. Definitely gonna have to go bigger.
You're right about it not being clear when it gets cranked. I thought it was my imagination at first but now that I think about it, I'd have to lower it a few notches to make it sound better. I'd be losing quality the higher it went.
You're ride is gonna be pimp with some chromies and 2 12's in it. Did you make a box for the subs?
Yea the subs face toward the back with the cones and magnets sticking out.Lots of room if you are not affraid to cut...But with that set up ported the air in the box is only 1.7" to 1.9" SF of air space..
Oh yea I ordered Black Deer Hide and Lipstick Red lamb Skin for the install. Both swade matierial..
IM not happy with the single din install kit.. I wanted the pocket..
What are you running?
Now I just need to make a box for the amp (as soon as I know which one I'm going to be keeping), carpet it, and carpet the front speakers. I was given a number to call before where I can get the original carpeting but I seem to have lost it. I'll have to look around for it some more.
Try turning the gain's up on the Amp. Also remember the 65x4 is probley rated at 14.4 V most vette's only push 13.5 so your loosing some power there on that amp
If you take it back try to get a JL audio 300/4 which is 75x4 at any voltage between 11-16. That amp's rocks I just picked up one
How do I do that? I checked out the manual for the amp but didn't see anything like that. Closest I saw was a crossover **** but when I messed with that, it did nothing. I don't know a whole lot about car audio.
Why did cut for 6x9's. I had a pair I was putting in before the 2 12"s
Your install looks very simple.. Sorry to hear about your deck troubles. Now amp. problems.. I have worked in car audio for 15 years. put systems in eveything..
So If you need any advise I will help.. Much cheaper doing it all you self..
Its always 80% labor thats more money for all the stuff you would have liked but said no because of money..
Also. Just go out and get a nice powerfull amp. One you can keep long time and grow with... I did that with my 800 watt amp 4 channel. But my subs are huge and cant see shoving them at full gain. So I went out and got a 1200 watt x2 JBL. best amps those people make for the money and the protection you get when bought from a dealer.. If you see any problems or it quits working take it back and they give you a new one for a life time..
My last car was sponsord by Inovative Audio and Hytech Autosound. talk about inwstalls.. My headunit then was a Kennwood Excelon KVT-911 touchscreen with the works.. Sold the car but ripped most of the junk out..Sold the head unit.. :cry It is a very nice deck.. Not user friendly..I had 4 screens and a xbox.. 2500 watts of power in a little 1988 M3.
Now I have the vette for 4 grand less and love it even more.
If you build it .They will come..
Rob
Also where you live.. In AZ? I see IL but read you get good deals in AZ.
Just my 0.02$. With the higher wattage amp, it doesn't mean that it will play louder if the gain's are setting the same for both amp. It just gives you cleaner image in higher volume. If your speaker cannot handle more than that, it will burn your speakers. So you gotta check your speakers.
I'm a dumbarse. I don't know how I missed the gain ***** on the amp last night when I checked it out. They turned it up to 3/4 and now it sounds great. I could yell over it before when it was maxed at 40 and now I have trouble hearing myself at 30. Sweet! This should do me just fine. Maybe if I get subs later, I'll sell the amp and get something bigger. The speakers should be able to handle a lot more though, according to their specs.
