Enclosure question-C4

I read a post awhile back that I can't find.....if using the front Bose enclosures with aftermarket speakers, do I need to close off the port and make sure it's sealed tight? Same with the rear?

You can block that but also if you just place a speaker in there you will loose air on the bottom and other area because its not sealed properly.. I put 6x9's in the front and the area had to be modified in size and air is semi proper.. Sounds great but would sound better in a more air sealed enclosure..

But to your question you can block off the area listen and unblock and listen and do what best suits your seakers..

Not necessarily, you can but it isn't necessary. Depending on the speaker you have of course. However, if you have the door pods taken out anyway you may as well seal it up as air tight as you can get it.

You don't use the pods in the rear for aftermarket speakers on your model Vette. You remove the pod entirely and you will notice a plastic ring there that is designed to hold a 6x9 speaker. You simply take out the pod and insert your 6x9 speaker, very simple. I do recommend you run new speaker wire to the back for the new 6x9's though. It too is extremely easy to do; the whole job will probably take you 30 min to an hour depending on how slow you take it. That includes running the speaker wire. Run new speaker wire to the front speakers as well. It too is simple to do.

Thanks for helping guys.....
As far as the front...I sold my front pods and had to make a brace for some 5 1/4 to work...man they SUCK....I am assuming because they are not in an enclosure. I have to fade the deck way to the front to even hear them. Anyways I will find some new pods for the front so I can make it better.

As far as the rear.... I already have the pods out and mounted to the exsisting frame. I should of elaborated more on that....my question...should I try to seal it up better between the speaker and frame? I also heard of using poly fill...??

Yes, throw some pollyfill in the cavity behind the speaker, it will help a little. As for sealing the rear plastic ring tighter to the car, that can be done with some silicone caulk and wouldn't hurt but I don't think there is that much leakage at that point. Again, what kind of speakers do you have in the rear and how much power is going to them? The type of speaker and power it is getting makes a HUGE difference.

Well...I got both Pioneer for front and back....not sure the model numbers right now...I am running a "45x4" deck( :lol: )...I know I need more power....but geez....the bose fronts sounded better than it does now. I had someone offer to give me his front pods for $40..so I will get those and seal them up.

You might want to get an amp too. You may be getting about 12 watts from the HU. You will never see that 45x4 that the HU advertises. So a small amp will help the sound immensely.

:iagree: The max you will probably see from the HU is 22.5 watts. They advertise 45 Watts but thats MOSFET Power Rating (Peak Power). It will never see that.
