Hi, I want to replace my stock stereo with an Alpine HU, separate amp, sub and new speakers. I've replaced all the sereos in my previous vehicles but this one has me nervous. Is the HU wired in to the computer? Will pulling it and pulling the Bose amps reset anything in the car? I would like to do it myself but if there is a chance of messing up the computer or blowing an airbag then I'll just fess up the pennies and ahve the car audio dealer install. Thanks!!
There's nothing wired to the car computer so you should be fine to pull all the Bose stuff.
Good luck on your project and don't forget to post pix :D
You will be able to install it easily. The C5 is very easy to work on and starting from scratch is the best method in the C5's case. Do some searches- there are countless members who have pictures of their setups.

Not to argue with you, but I'm curious how the speed controlled volume works if this is the case? I'll be getting around to doing my install soon, and figured there had to be some tie-in for this to function.
It sounds like it's a non-issue, just curious.

Actually there is 1 wire that sends signals from the Pcm to radio such as the speed. If you go with a aftermarket deck there is no need to worry about it but your speed control volume does go away. If you use a wiring harness there is no need to worry about setting off a airbag or breaking a PCM
The first mod I did was getting rid of the stock Bose system & replacing it with an Alpine system. I have an Alpine 7998 HU, Boston Acoustics front & rears, a JL Audio 12" SW & an Alpine MRV-F450 amplifier & an Alpine CHA-1214 12 disc changer.
I had a custom enclosure made for the subwoofer. Its located in the center compartment. Don't have a vinyl enclosure made. You will wind up regretting it down the road like I am now. :(
