Installing audio system from scratch: Please help with ideas.
I’m planning on installing a stereo system on a vehicle that came with no radio. My plan is to take apart the dash, install the head unit, wire it into the car’s fusebox, and run speaker wire under the carpet to two speakers that I’m putting inside speaker boxes in the back.
Am I missing anything? Does anyone have any tips or tricks to doing this? Also, what would be involved if I wanted to add an antenna for AM/FM radio stations to this setup?

It came with no radio? Could it have come with a radio? Its possible that the basic wiring for the radio exists even though there is no HU. What kind of vehicle is it?

1982 Datsun 720 Pickup Truck
- 102 hp, 129 lb/ft torque, 4 speed manual transmission, 35000 original miles :D
It's possible the wiring exists, but it has no speakers either. How can I tell?

Run your own wiring. Take your time getting it in and getting it right. Check out Ebay for some good buys on wiring too.

In case anyone is interested in how it went:
I was able to run all my own wiring: from the + battery terminal, from the fusebox for the switch wire, and to the truck body for the - . It took a total of about 16 hours for the total install, which included cutting a hole in the dash for the radio to fit. I put the speakers in a speaker box, so I wouldn't have to install them in the car doors. Also installed a power antenna, which was not as easy as I thought it would be.
If anyone else on CF does something similar, feel free to email me with any questions.
