I just found out that my 7 year old Soundstream 4 channel amp is responsible for blowing my front speakers. It seems as though the first channel puts out nothing but noise and damages any speaker I have attached to it. I have already replaced the amp with a hifonics 5 channel amp and won't be using it anymore. I would like to know just how repairable are amps andif they are worth the pain.

They are repairable, and old SoundStreams ARE worth fixing IMHO. However, if you don't want to pay to have it repaired, you might want to sell it. I would purchase such an amp and then fix it in my spare time.

Good luck with your decision.

Do I have to send it to Soundstream or can my local car audio shop fix it? What is the going price? What is a Soundstream USA 364 worth to you?

I would (if I weren't going to perform the repair myself) send it to SoundStream and let them work on it. I am not sure what the going rate for a repair is because I just do them myself :) They usually consume about $10-$30 in parts, and then an hour or two of labor.
Damaged equipment is hard to get a good price on. A USA364 (60x4) with a dead channel is worth $150 to me.... hardly a good price considering what you paid for it...... but it is used and damaged.
I am just trying to figure out all my options right now. How much would you do the repair for me for? Do you consider soundstream superior to Hifonics or other competing brands?

Most of the newer amps are more efficient than the older amps, but I believe the older amps are a little more durable. I have a Nakamichi PA302 (80x2) that I bought in 1990..... I run that amp pretty hard (bridged - 160W) and it is still going strong. If you're looking at high-end amps, you're going to find that they are all pretty nice.... for me, it comes down to form factor and headroom in the power supply. The Zeus ZX8000 is an AWESOME amplifier with a great form factor. We Corvette owners really need an all-in-one package like that..... I just can't afford one :)
Sorry, I only work on my own equipment. Send that thing to SoundStream, I am sure that it is worth fixing. You can put it in another of your vehicles!
