I am planning on redoing the entire system in my '98 C5 and could use some help/suggestions picking gear. Important points are the Neo, I'm an MP3 fiend, and the Stealthbox or something similar to fit in the main storage compartment. Here's what I've got worked out so far.
HEAD UNIT:
Alpine CDA-7998
FRONTS:
MB Quart QSD216s
REARS:
Will pass on these at first. I can decide last if I need the rear fill. Although, I do like the sytems with add-on midbass units. I know MB Quart and Diamond Audio offer it. Is this a something worth considering?
MP3 CHANGER:
Neo Jukebox with direct interface to head unit.
SUB:
JL Audio Stealthbox w/ included 10W3v2-D2.
AMP(S):
JL 250/1 for the sub
300/2 for the fronts components
I KNOW you guys are full of good ideas, so lets hear 'em :D
Re: C5 - need help planning entire system (mfrnka)
I am partial to the Alpine CDA-7897 or CDA-7998. If you are planning on having external amps, the CDA-7998 is a good way to go. I love the extra-large face mechanism and the head unit is highly customizable. Both of them support the i-Personalize feature, which allows you to set your crossovers, time correction, and parametric equalizer, but with the 7998 you can actually have the Alpine website do all your calculations and spit out a MP3 file, which you can burn to a CD and upload to the head unit.
From what I gather and according to the site, you order direct from edesign and the new K series won't be avialable until June 1st.
I didn't have much luck finding reviews or with a google search.
yep that's the site. They are releasing a new version of the K series, which is suppose to be even better than the 03's... It'll be worth the wait. If you want reviews, go to car audio forums, not google.
Re: C5 - need help planning entire system (Stones Kid)
I have pretty much finalized the system. See the initial thread post. Anyone see any problems here? I heard great things about the MB Quarts if you move up to the QSDs. Sub might be a bit smallish, but I'm not a fan of big bumpin' bass.
Re: C5 - need help planning entire system (baldie)
Might have to do something similar myself. Online vendor is telling me they are out of the QSDs. Lucklily a local member has a spare set of templates he's letting me have for a bargain basement price.
Re: C5 - need help planning entire system (mfrnka)
I now know why he needs a new stereo system.......To cover up that BADD AZZ exhaust system, when ya nail that Pro Charged throttle.
He let me drive it and ....DAYUM! It moves :yesnod:
Now all I do is :cry :cry :cry I want one too.
Thanx for the ride & Can't wait to come over and do the LS-1 Edit thang.
Re: C5 - need help planning entire system (prospero63)
tshac - thanks for the demo. You've got an incredible system. Hope mine turns out half as good.
prospero63 - I've heard this from several others. However, the QSD series isn't as bad in this area an a bit of crossover tweaking seems to fix it for most people. Thanks for the feedback.
Re: C5 - need help planning entire system (mfrnka)
QSD's are metallic, sharp, and cold... I used to like that kind of sound... well, not as quite much as they are, thats why i got Focals a few years back... Utopias are a bit easier on the ears... although now days i prefer smooth warm and realistic, like my CDT's. Boston is also very nice, probably the best brand that can be had from a chain store.
Put a simple parametric eq and have it tuned, if your QSD's turn out too much for your ears. They sound real nice with a little eq work. The EQ on the 7998 should do the job tho.
