It is a nice HU but Im not so sure if its going to be able to compete with Kenwood and Pioneers new HU's coming out.

The Kenwood KVT-915DVD is a 7-inch touschscreen display with onboard 5.1 channel processing, plays MP3s, HD Radio, DVD-Audio, and controls Sirius Satellite radio and an optional Music Keg. Also has a built-in tv tuner.

Pioneers AVH-P7500DVD is also a 7-inch touchscreen tv. It also has 5 channel processing, plays MP3s, DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs and has a built in tv tuner.

The H700 for the Alpine is supposed to retail for around $850. That is a little high but it is a gorgeous piece. The D900 + H700 combo would look pretty amazing.

I've played with the D900 recently. The screen seemed a bit bulky, but maybe because I'm used to the thin display on the kenwoods. The GUI looked the same as all of the other Alpines, just a bit "refined". I didnt see any new technology that screamed "buy me", but I didnt get to watch any video on it. Car Toys was having issues with Alpines new brake w/ parking brake feature they seemed to have added.

Im still a huge fan of the kenwood 910/911, especially at the new price theyre offering it ($1800, down from $2400  )

If anyone has had a lot of time to play with the D900, I'd like some other opinions, especially on the display. Does the 1.15M pixels make a big difference?

sry, I always type "a lot" :D

Wow, things have changed. Alpine having to compete with Pioneer and Kenwood? That's like a Corvette having to compete with a Mustang. :D I have never seen a Kenwood or a Pioneer that I had to have. I have HAD to have four Alpines.

Keep in mind that the alpine H700 (processing) offers the following:

1. Fully automated RTA tuning
2. Fully automated time correction
3. 31 bands per channel (6 channels) EQ.
4. High S/N ratio
5. Dolby Prologic II
6. Multiple Tos-Link inputs for other digital devices.

All of the above are performed in the digital domain, such that no infomation is lost. The D/A conversion on the alpine uses a very high quality DAC from bur-brown. At CES we measured the D900/H700 solution and found a 116db S/N ration (after processing). Simply astonishing...

Most man can't even get 100db S/N.

The H700 utilizes Tos link input connectors, so that you can use the digital output of an X-box, MD player etc... Niether pioneer, kenwood or eclipse used a standard connector (or had an input to begin with).

Having the 5.1 decoder "built into" the head isn't always the best option.

Remeber that markup for MSRP is usually 80%, meaning that the Internet dealers will be offering them much cheaper.

The Kenwood TV's have always been the best since the p-907. I agree, for the most part, when comparing the rest of the gear.

If you want to compare models individually:

Kenwood KVT-911DVD - Alpine IVA-C800
Kenwood KVT-910DVD - Alpine CVA-1003
Kenwood P-907 - Alpine CVA-1000

Theres no contest, Kenwood wins hands down.
It'd be better to compare the past Alpine tvs to the Clarions :) Thats more like comparing Camaros and Mustangs.

Yep, got the news too :mad No h700 till probably July
The bad part is the rest of the system is on hold till then, but it is in and operational :D

I have to agree with the Kenwood stuff, you see more Kenwood 910/911's in show cars and IASCA/USAC cars than any other flip out monitor. Alpine does run a close 2nd, and will be better off with their new d900. But the 915 from Kenwood will be hard to beat in a all-in-one unit.
