Default Tweeter question..............

First, I have to thank you guys for all of your suggestions about which component speakers to get. I bought a pair of CDT HD's, which came highly recomended. Now, I'd like to pick your brain about tweeter placement for them. My installer said that he can put the tweeters on the A-pillar, or in the normal spot. What is the advantage/disadvantage to him doing this, and would it make the system sound better?

Thanks again

I think there are various opinions on this. But according to what I've read, ideally you would like to have the tweeter no more than 8" away from the woofer. The stock location in the C5 is as close to ideal as it gets. You want the woofer low in the door and point the tweets towards you about 2" above the woofer.

get some double sided tape, wire up the speakers and try the tweeter out in in the doors, on the A-pillar, etc

pick which one sounds the best to you

:iagree:

One thing to watch out for, though, is that the stock twiddler location is actually bad... half of it fires into the door panel, not into the grill opening. Place your tweeter in the opening (about 1" lower/diagonal than stock) and then point it at the driver and passenger heads.

If you want to get an idea of what I mean, just take a flashlight and shine it through the grill at the top. You'll see that the midrange/tweeter is only half visible.

You can put CDT's tweeter in the a pillar without any real adverse effects that most sets would give you. They are designed to work well off axis, and in weird mounting places. Next to the mid is always ideal, though.

dont point the cdt tweets toward you, they are designed to be heard from the side and sound much nicer pointed at each other. maybe slightly toward you.

Metalwolf is right on track, though!

Here is a thread that I posted pics on:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=552077

It shows how I made the plates, and where I placed the tweeter.
