I don't want to drill a hole in my fire wall, can anyone point me to a hole in my '99 coupe that I could pass a 4 or 8 ga wire through?
If I have to drill where should I do it. I am just concerned about my plastic car rusting :jester
I never found an existing hole that I could fit a 4ga through. I just drilled a hole in a panel that some existing wiring comes through (behind the battery). This location seemed ideal since it is right near the battery and there was a blank spot just dying to be used :D I drilled from the inside up above the fuse block/computer. This is the area you look at when you run your speaker wire to the passenger door..... to the left of the opening. I used a Monster wire grommet (the kind that clamps down on the wire) to ensure a clean, tight job.
Warning: If you don't have a right angle drill (Makita) and a selection of hole saws, the job will be much harder. I actually used a Forstner bit to drill the hole, but a regular hole saw should work. A drill bit will be a PITA due to its length.

PS Who doesn't have a Makita right angle 9.6v drill? :jester
no offense, but both wrong. I have run 4 gauge through the firewall in 4 corvette's now, and just did it this afternoon in my new one. From the inside of the car take the passenger kickplate out. THere will be some plastic pieces up on the roof on the foot wello, remove those (pull the two plugs out). Follow the massive chunck of wires into the firewall, they are surrounded by a big gasket. You can't run it through the gasket because it is all taped together on the other side (inside the engine bay). Pry it off the firewall from the side on the inside of the car. Go to HOME DEPOT and but the biggest fuc*in zip tie you can and cut off the big chunk on the one end. then proceed to slip it through the outside of the gasket from the inside of the car. You will have to remove the battery to recieve it on the other side. Then when you see it poking through take duct tape and tape the 4 gauge wire to the zip tie on the INSIDE of the car. Its gonna take 4 or 5 wraps and make it come to a cone so that it will go through easier than a flat end of wire. Grab a hold of it on the engine bay side, and pull it through. Took me about 10 minutes to get it through, and about 20 to run it through the entire car to the back using the zip tie method. If you have any other questions on stereo installs, just email me, i do them all the time.
Re: Amp power cable run in C5? (WILDONETHIRTYSEVEN)
I ran two 4 gauge wires in without drilling. I am pulling them this weekend, I will tell you how I did it. Its been almost 4 years since I did it. I know its on the pass side.
