We all know that the GM, Ford and Chrysler stuff, no matter what audio name they team up with, leaves much to be desired and sounds artificial.
My Nissan, however, besides having no true low bass extension, sounds pretty darn transparent and fresh up front. The sound stage is nice too with mids high in the doors and tweeters in the A pillar. I really don't mind listening to music on this at all and I never turned on the stock radio on any Corvette or Camaro I've owned.
Have you heard any stock systems you would deem, "acceptable?" Not great necessarily, but acceptable to the point where you could live with it and enjoy it.

hey bart did your z come with the 500 watt monsoon system?
I don't think they called it Monsoon in the Camaro in 2002, at least that wasn't mentioned anywhere in the manual or window sticker but it was the premium 500 watt system.

that's probably the same one then, 10 speakers blah blah... i think that's one of the better factory setups I've heard.

Had two four inch mids in the rear, two 6.5" woofers by the rear seats, two 6.5" mids and two 1" tweeters up front. It sounded OK at first but the more you listen to it the more its weaknesses become apparent. A big boost in upper bass to make up for the lack of real bass is one. A complete lack of soundstage is another, music was just all over the place. The more you listened to it the more artificial it sounded. I spent over a year with it and I never turned on music any more. It was like a so-so girl that wears a lot of makeup; at first she seems pretty but the more time you spend with her the more you realize she was fooling you. I didn't like the system in my C5 either.

My dad's Matrix has a decent stereo apart from the lack of bass...I might remedy that by building a sub box and buying a sub for him for Father's Day. I have an amp sitting in my room and I am trying to figure out how to bridge it, see my post to see if you can help me.

My old 97 grand cherokee limited had an infinity system that I was perfectly happy with. Tweeters in the dash and a Mid control with the bass and treble. Who decided that cars don't need a mid control!!!! It sounded really clear and had adequate bass somehow without a sub. I think there were two 6x9s and two 6.5" speakers though, they helped.
BMw330xi. It has a 12 speaker Harmon Kardon system that sounds excellent but needs some more bass. JL makes a stealthbox with tw 8" subs that replace the stock subs in the rear deck. Now, that would be a great addition. :D

My 94 vette had a much better stock system than the C5 I have now. Both were Bose systems, but I was really disappointed with the system in my C5 and I've finally had enough. All the parts have been ordered.

So far 3 Nissans have been mentioned with good sounding stereos (Mine included.) I wonder what Nissan is doing right that others can't copy? My Sentry SER Spec V came with a sub.
