Is there interest? These are little devices that are $30 a pair at Partsexpress.com ...you hook them to your seats to add "impact" to your subwoofers (or as substitutes) anyone interested in seeing the proccess/review/info on these? ill post it after my head unit arrives from Tlelectronics
Re: Should I document my bass shaker install? (Kale)
Is there any sonic value to these devices? I just don't understand why they exist. Would they benefit my system with small subs? Do they act just like 4 ohm speakers as far as your amp is concerned?
By all means, this is the Internet. Photos and text are great. The more information given the better.
Re: Should I document my bass shaker install? (1COOLPC)
yes, they act like 4 ohm speakers... They add impact. From what i understand, they add "impact" to your subs, so that you can feel the vibrations under 80hz even more... makes your subs seem a lot tougher than they are... plus they will shake at 20hz.. which your average sub cant play anyway.

Really? I guess I must not know what your "average" sub can do but mine (JBL 12 GTs) play to 15 hz with no problem. They were only 70 bucks each and are running 225 rms per sub in a sealed 1.25 cu ft. per sub box.

are you sure it's playing at 15 hz? the sub's response bottoms out at 28...
Re: Should I document my bass shaker install? (Metal Wulf)
Lets do a little math and find out if your sub is playing 20hz.
The yellow line is the response curve of your subwoofer in your box.
The green line is "not your average sub's" response curve.
Notice your response curve is down 3db at a measly 45hz,
notice the "not your average sub" is down 3db at... 18hz.
The blue line is an inexpensive 8" sub that is made by CDt. I run two of them in my truck. It loses 3db at 31hz. This 8 plays lower than your 12.
Now if you had ported your 12 in a bigger box, you'd hit lower than that eight inch sub, but would still drastically drop off in comparison to "not your average sub." (Adire Audio Brahma)
Your sub ported is the purple line. -3db is at 26hz, but notice how drastically it drops off anyway.

You forget the transfer function in a car. I have played 15 hz tones and at the time my rearview mirror was loose and it fell off. So yes, they do play to 15hz. Maybe at cruise in 6 I will be able to show you. I won't be able to make it next year because of graduation, but I will be able to make it the year after. When you feel it, you will know. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
Re: Should I document my bass shaker install? (TheWacoKid)
I just modeled my sub in my box and got this plot with WinISD:
3 db down is at 43, with the in car boost of 12 db per octave below 80 hz...easily in the 15s to 20s
Here is the plot with tf included:(I know it is a rough estimate, but it works)
So, while I would be 12 db down or so at 15 hz, 12 db down from over 120 dbs is still a ~108 db blast at 15 hz. I'm pretty sure I would feel that!
What proggie do you use for modeling? And what specs did you get for my subs? The model name is GT1281.
EDIT: sorry about the pic quality, msn hosting down sized the pics. :mad
Re: Should I document my bass shaker install? (TheWacoKid)
My sub will "play" at 10Hz when using a Audio test CD. I cant hear it, but it moves. I can hear (and feel) the 20Hz tone as loud at the 30 and 60 Hz tone. I was pretty impressed. It is a 10" Kicker L5 in a sealed box.

That's pretty good for a 10 inch L5! The boost(transfer function) from the coupe must be pretty high to hit 20 hz strongly with that sub. I'm assuming it is in a sealed box? Otherwise, if it is ported, I would be careful playing tones below the tuning frequency at high volumes...you can easily kill ported woofers like that.
Re: Should I document my bass shaker install? (Kale)
I had a set of these in a Miata. I had the Pro versions that are a little bigger and handle more power, not sure if you can still get them or not, Use to sell for around $75 on Ebay. They were great in the Miata. I had 6.5" components and the Shakers instead of Subs. I was sending 50W to each one. I had a lot more bass then than I do in my Vette with a 10" CDT sub and 200 Watts running to it. I had them just wedged between the back of the seat and the wall behind the seat, the side benefit was a great back message.
Re: Should I document my bass shaker install? (Kale)
I hope the bass shakers work. They are meant to be mounted to metal if I remember correctly from a long time ago. They create impact and feeling by vibrating where it is mounted. Not sure how it will work with the fiberglass. Let us know how it goes!
