VSS Color Code
Has anyone installed a Alpine NVE-N852A DVD based navigation system in a C5? The system requires a wire hookup to the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) located in the rear differential. Alpine won’t give out the wire color code unless you’re a dealer. The speed sensor has two wires, YEL and PPL, anyone know which wire is the right one?

Thanks, Bud
I don't think it matters which you use ... but I used Yellow and it works fine for my Kenwood Nav system.
Congrats on picking the correct VSS circuit by the way! All the other VSS circuits in the vette are digital and will not work with the Nav systems. (including the VSS circuits in the ABS system) Kenwood pointed me to the ABS circuit first - and then admitted 3 days later that some GM car's ABS circuits won't work. (because it's a low voltage digital circuit instead of the higher voltage analog circuit coming off the real VSS sensor.
Make sure you solder and tape that wire up good (it's a really tough wire to get at - being on top of the differential) - should it short out to the purple wire, the VSS coil will overheat and break. ($55 part) On an auto, without a VSS signal, the car's speedometer will show 0 and the car will not shift into 3rd gear - thus making it a veerryy long trip home. Don't ask how I know this ... :jester
Good Luck - and post some pics when you're done!
