Thoughts on Eclipse CD 8443
I know most of you are pro ALPINE, but i just can't find the one i want. I was looking at the 9815 and was ready to buy when i looked over and saw this Eclipse 8443. I like it because it has the dual ***** and is real close in illumination. It also has the 8v pre amp out. When it comes down to it, i'll never need the full functionality of the 9815...i dont use MP3's or XM. Do you think this 8443 is a good HU for $415?

I had an eclipse deck about 5 years back- something like a 5342R, or 4352R? It was an amazing deck, my favorite ever, and I felt at the time it knocked the crap out of all the comparable alpines. Sadly, I sold it with my old system when I discovered I didn't need it any more. I went to the shop that sold it to me (a super-custom installer), and found out he stopped selling eclipse a couple years back because he felt the quality went to hell. It happens with everything in this world from time to time- the company works hard for a good product, finally gets the response it deserves, coasts there for a couple years, and then cuts back on the quality in order to increase the profit margin. Then, people realize, and the former great product is now garbage thanks to the company's economists! So you know, I have no experience with the new eclipse stuff other than that "product cycle" as told to me by the audio shop owner. I LOVED my old eclipse!

:iagree: While shopping for an Alpine, the guy at the store where I bought my last one stopped selling them. Eclipse was the only high-end HU's he carries. Same reason..... :lol:
