I've asked the customer service rep at Bose to visit our forum to sample the comments on the Bose stereo. I hope I don't offend anyone here, but it looks like there is wide range of opinions on the topic. Might be worth a try to show Bose how some corvette owners feel!
For a stock system the C5 bose isn't too bad, but the Bose in my dad's CLK is intolerably atrocious :U.
I haven't heard the Maxima Bose, but supposedly they sound good.
My home bose system is really bad, but I liked it before I knew what sounded good to me.
I'm amazed that Bose is so willing to ruin their reputation by selling this stuff under their own name !
I have never heard a stock stereo that I liked in ANY car but this is up there with the worst.
You would think the GM flagship car having the biggest name in speakers that cost a fortune to get would at least sound OK.
For the money it is better to get the base radio and plan to upgrade it as soon as you hit your driveway !
I dont like Bose home audio or car audio. The speakers just don't sound right.
Bose KNOWS their speakers don't compare with the competitors. Bose also knows the competitors marketing doesn't compare to their own. Thus, we have a very successful company that makes a very mediocre product.
Added two 10" subs in the well with a 1200W Rockford amp, it sounds much better with the bass thumping back there, but the Bose will still be replaced - kind of an interim step for now, the sound just isn't very good out of that stereo. It's just not a very good system and a base system (or no system at all) should be offered so I can install what I want... just my opinion, please don't flame.
Was o.k. at first, but now, sorry, I'm ready to MOVE ON! Just not enough clairty in the sound! Instruments in the sound are missing, actually it's quite disappointing. On a nicer note, my mom had a bose home system, it's got a real nice sound, wish it sounded as nice in my Corvette!
Bose relies on their marketing and the reputation they have established from years ago. However, their quality is not what it used to be. The system in the C5 in particular is an example of over engineering. Bose would have been much better off if they had just included 4 great speakers and a nice powerful amp.
I also have owned a C4, which had the Bose. That system sounded great and after owning for 5 years, I never saw a need to replace it. The C5 is a whole different story. When I first got my c5 I thought a mistake had been made, that I did not get the Bose. Of course I did, it sounded very medicore.
Finally, for less than $1000 I put in my own system, that completely puts the Bose to shame.
C'mon Bose, if you want the true audio enthusiast back in your corner, start putting your money in your development and not advertising.
I like all things Bose at low to medium/high volume...I think it sounds more unique and better than most htings out there. But when you push Bose hard, it usually fails the test.
I have listened to everything from the "Legendary" (Hah) Vintage 901's to
the 301's, 501's, Acoustimass etc. Nothing from Bose has ever wow'd me in
the least.
Two things Bose has more than any other audio company. Marketing and
Lawyers.. Hell as adament as I am against Bose I am suprised they haven't
sued me yet.. Lord knows they SUE ANYONE who says that thier product is
inferior in any way.
For example.. If the Acoustimass systems were priced realisticaly at maybe
$500.00 then they wouldn't be hosing the consumer so bad... And the worst
part is that J6P's (Joe/Jane Six Pack) aspire to own Bose like it's "High End"
or something.. ROTFLMAO! :lolg:
I fixed all the problems with the Bose setup in my 00... It was real easy..
They use junk drivers that age rapidly - considering the environment inside a car!
The amps are not very durable, and, to be honest, they just don't sound that great. There is no presence of the music. They play so much with acoustics that they loose the power of the music.
I had the opportunity to listen to several Bose home theater systems at the local Bose outlet store. The best is the Lifestyle system with the little Jewel speakers. Sweet. However, the bass box cannot produce sound much below 50hz!
Bose - Wake up! A real 10" sub in a well designed enclosure will kick any 6" driver pair that are ported to death.
In general, I'm pretty happy with the Bose system in my 04 coupe. Radio reception isn't a problem in the Wash DC area. I can pick up Baltimore and Richmond as well, which is damned good reception.
BTW, in other forum chats, I've come to understand that Bose only makes the speaker and the amp pickups, not the radio itself. Can anyone confirm that?
Save theWave. :seeya

Woah if that's the best you have heard *Shudders at the thought*....
You should see a Frequency Response Sweep of the Acoustimass/Lifestyle
systems.. Can you say massive hole from 60Hz to 120Hz and nothing from
13.5Khz and up!
