Okay guys, I'm looking for people who have changed their 1996 sound system.
I wish I was electronically enclined, but I am not, so I need ANY advice you can give me. I currently have the stock Gold Blose CD system, and in the beginning I really liked the sound, but now it's just not enough. I'm not looking for extreme base, or to add any major modification into my vette for a sound system. I'm looking for an awesome sound with instrumental clarity and clairty with volume. Can you give me any system(s) that have been installed, that I can job out, and not have my car messed up in the process. I'm not gonna be able to do it myself, and will have to go to a shop. I'm apprehensive, I don't like strangers messing with my car, SO, if anyone can give me specifics as to what they have had installed, and the ease or problems along with it, the results etc. I'd really appreciate it! Laymens terms please! :) o.k. so fine, I'm blond too! Help me out here!
I am in the process of doing the same thing...upgrading my stereo in my C4. I will probably go with an Alpine Head unit (radio/cd/mp3..etc), a set of either Boston Acoustic or MB Quart speakers for the front and rear, a JL amp, and a JL sub. All of these items can be purchased over the net and installed by someone...or you can price them on the net and see if a local stereo shop will match the prices. :)

:iagree: Agree with Alpine hu, and JL amp & sub, but you might consider the CDT speakers. They really sound great.
First thing anyone's gonna ask, how much $$ do you have to spend?
I can spend up to $1000, although I don't think I would need to spend that for what I'm looking for. Once again, I want NO major modifications done in the car, just an excellent upgrade. Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks guys! :)
Thanks for your suggestion. Would you know whats involved with the install? Is it fairly easy? I'm leary, I don't want my dash being ripped at, or my carpet, wires and electrical system being hacked by someone. I will most definately try and find someone who has installed one on my year car, but I still want to know everything I possibly can about the installation process, and any special points / problems etc. I would need to tell the person installing, to watch out for or be careful about. Am I overprotective or what? :) :)

Just replaced my Boses Gold in my 96, 2 days ago. I went with an Alpine 9815 headunit with Boston Acoustics speakers. Used a Metra install kit with pocket. I wanted a complete stock look, so I didn't add a CD changer or amps...just no room anywhere. Also had the front grill replaced, all for $1000. Sounds great...don't know why I didn't do this sooner.
