Since I have a Jensen 2 channel amp sitting around, that I got for free a long while ago. (Back in 00) I thought about using it in another car (not the vette) to power some 6x9's...think it'd work out ok? It says it's 75wattsx2 RMS with .05% THD...
They are definately bottom of the barrel stuff, but if you have them already go ahead and try them. Worse thing that can happen is that they reproduce horrible sound or they stop working. I just wouldn't buy Jensen or use them to power expensive speakers, but other then that you'll be fine.
why not try it? Jensen does stretch the wattage ratings though. I have a Jensen amp somewhere in my piles of boxes in storage that said 60 watts per channel but in the fine print it was actually 12 watts per channel. It worked fine when I used it. Rock on
The funny thing about Jensen is that is the most well known crappy brand. Even if you don't know anything at all about car audio, you know that Jensen is crappy. But what the hell, if it does its job to your satisfaction, thats all that matter. Just try and hide it under a seat or something so nobody knows you are using it except for us. :D
Yeah it's true mostly everyone thinks "crap" when they hear the Jensen name
just like they think top of the line when they hear "Bose". Both accounts are
wrong.. It's a shame that Jensen has been devalued by it's owners to the
point where it is recognized as garbage by everyone. Decades ago Jensen
was a high end company along with JBL, AR, Altec and Klipsch. (Of course I
am speaking Home Audio)....
Re: Are Jensen Amps even ACCEPTABLE? (knewblewkorvette)
Not sure about the amps...but i got the MP3 player that has problems...The volume won't stay up and the unit won't stay off. Went to their support site and everyone is haveing the same problems and Jensen won't return emails.
I got a cheap profile amp from crutchfield and am happy so far.
You guys think jenson over rates? what about kenwood? My buddy bought a 350 watt kenwood amp for his 12"MTX thunder and it put out only a bit more punch than his 80watt pyramid amp powering 2 pyramid 10" subs. I know you guys are gonna laugh and tell me how it would have sounded like poopie but the truth is that it sounded better than probably every system at skool. (no i dont live in the slums, the average income of my community is probably 70,000+)

Yes, Kenwood sucks too. :yesnod:
:iagree: :iagree: totally
Others that over rate their amps are Pioneer (good head units though IMO) Sony, Audiovox ( no poopie) and others. Do NOT go by the ratings that are on the amp's exterior. Look for rms at 20 to 20k at less than .1% THD at 12 volts.
Alot of amps will rate at 1K, 10% THD, and at 14.4 volts.
I used to see eq boosters that said 300 watts per channel. Total BS, they might have done 300 watts for one mirco-second when fed a lightning bolt
