Okay, I'm in need of some advice. I can't decide between a couple amp options. I originally decided on a Alpine MF450 (50x4, 200x1) to power my system. But, I was thinking about getting a US Acoustics 4085 and then buying a mono amp for my sub. I really like the idea of a 5 channel amp because of simplicity but, US Acoustics is a cheaper route. Also from what I've read here on the forum US Acoustics makes good amps. So any advice would be appreciated. :D
I have a mint condition 6 ch coustic amp I will sale for $100.00 + shipping. Im in the process of moving and am selling my system. Let me know and I can send you a pic and specs.
I've had two US Acoustics amps. The first one (USX-4085) I bought from Crutchfield's outlet store and the 3rd & 4th channels did not work right. I returned it and got a brand new USB-4085.
This amp has been trouble free despite a funky load I tried to send it by accident.
Power is great, but I agree a sperate sub amp is the way to go.
If you're not looking for high power, but nice clean sounding amp, try the Soundstream D'Atagnon. 5 X 65 watts RMS into 4 ohms and 1 X 200 watt RMS sub channel. http://www.soundstream.com
Don't buy that Alpine amp. Alpine makes incredible head units and thats about it, IMO. I've always felt that 5 channel amps are nothing but a compromise. You generally don't get enough power for any of the channels.
And think about it, if you are going to install one amp anyway, it isn't any harder to add a second one. You will end up with more power, flexibility, and usually less cost.
I've heard good and bad things about US Acoustics amps.
Depending on your HU and if you want rear fill, you might be able to get away with just a 2 channel amp and a mono amp, or even 2 2 channel amps (one to run the front speakers, and the other bridged for a sub). Run the rear speakers (if you want them) from the HU. I like the 2 2 channel amp approach because it makes for a very nice looking install.
