I finaly got everything going. Im using the FM modulator till i get my HU. But the one i have kinda sucks. Does anyone know of a more powerful modualtor than the belkin.
I just got the iPod over the weekend (40 gig model). Based on what I heard from the Apple people and others, the FM modulators will not provide very good sound. The iPod really needs to be hard wired directly into the head unit. For now, I am trying to live with a modulator or earphones when I am driving alone.
BTW - I have loaded about 45 CD's and only used a little under 3 gigs of space - pretty incredible little gadget.
It is amazing how much music they hold. I listen in the office (classical) and on the road (classic rock to metal). I am at just under 100 CD's - 2000+ songs and have 30 gigs left to use.
I tried the Belkin FM modulator, but it rather sucks because of all the interference in LA. Hardwiring seems to be the solution.
In order to get better sound than the FM Modulator, you will need to get the signal in via RCA input. However, the stock headunit doesn't have RCA input so you will need an adapter from PIE, GM10-AUX. For more details on this adapter, take a look at http://www.tlelectronics.com/webstor...roducts_id=154
This PIE GM10-AUX adapter hook up to the cd-changer cable. So you will need to get the cd-changer cable also if your car doesn't already have one. http://www.tlelectronics.com/webstor...roducts_id=157 (You should check under the passenger foot well first. :) )
Not that I particularly enjoy having someone else work on the car, but don't have much experience to rely on in wiring in systems. Is this a complex issue or is it something that a competent stereo shop should be able to handle? If I am adding auxillary inputs, I would like to make sure I can add XM radio as well as an MP3 player.
With the Pie adapter, you can pretty much add any devices that have RCA output. And almost all of them do. :) The install itself is fairly easy. However, if you are not comfortable working on it then any competent stereo shop should be able to take care of you.
