FM RECEPTION
I have switched out my stock radio for a Alpine 7894 and the radio reception is terrible! I cannot get the same stations as with my stock radio, in both of my GM vehicles! Even though I did not buy this for radio, it should not be worst than my stock unit! Anybody have have any idea of what I can do to improve radio reception?
Have the sensitivity of the aftermarket radio measured and compare it to its specifications. Check to make sure that the antenna is ok. Measure the resistance from the center pin of the radio connector to the antenna (should be low resistance). People think aftermarket radios are better than stock. A friend of mine designed the C4 radios and the rf section (the receiver portion) is excellent.
What about the reception on the stock radio? I've got a 2000 vert, had it about 4 months and I thing the reception is awful. I live in San Antonio and am used to pulling in Austin stations, about 70+ miles away with no problem. No so with this radio. Don't suppose there's any adjustment of the antenna gain anywhere? Any suggestions?

You should remove the "Diversity" Antenna switching module, located behind the drivers side side trim panel. It selects either the windshield or rear glass antenna, based on a control signal from the stock head unit. If the control signal is not connected (with an aftermarket head unit), you may not be connected to either antenna.
