I posted a while back concerning installing a small sub in an '80 C3. I finally decided on one and got it to spew forth noise last night. Thanks to all for their input and suggestions. After much deliberating and nashing of the teeth, it made sense for me to integrate a small powered sub into my current system as opposed to re-doing the entire system trying to get some punch without rattling the lisence plates. I ended up installing the Kenwood WooX sub and so far I am very impressed with it. It is small enough to let me keep my storage space for the T-tops and still gives me just the bit of thump I was looking for. For those of you not familiar with the unit, it weighs in at a whopping 7.7 pounds and the size of the unit is 15-3/16 inches x 4-5/8 inches x 8-1/4 inches. It features a dual voice coil 5-1/4" woofer, and a 6-1/2" passive radiator which cranks out a lot of bass out of a tiny package. Here is a link to a pic, with a good price I might add. http://www.e-lectronicsforless.com/kenkscwa6woo.html
I bought mine off of E-bay for about $170.00. When I get all the wires hidden and the installation looking less Bubba'd, I will try and post or e-mail pics for those interested. The other sub I considered was the Infinity Bass Link but after looking over measurments, it was going to be a tad to big (tall) to fit on the back wall between the existing 6X9s. the Infinity had better looking numbers on paper but the Kenwood is a mighty fine unit for its size and money as well. So, if you C-3 guys are looking for a little something in the bottom end with out having acres of amps and subs and no T-top storage, you might check this little unit out. So far I like it and the install is a breeze as it takes a line out from your head unit or a speaker input jumped from your original speaker runs. Thanks again to all for your help and suggestions.
I've seen that Kenwood sub in Crutchfield,, looked interesting for someone who wanted to put a sub under the front seats. It's so small and low. Never get it under a vette seat though. Enjoy it
I wish there would have been room to put it under the seats but no dice. It fit nicely up against the back wall between the existing 6X9s. I secured it to the floor with the supllie "L" brackets, as to not add any stress to the back wall fiberglass, which is a bit thin from my research here on the forum. I cleaned up most of the install last night but need to lengthen the ground wire so I can go around the parimeter of the rear cargo area. Right now the ground wire is only long enough to shoot straight across the top of the carpet to the grounding point. It looks slighltl tacky but I will fix eventually. So many projects, so little time!
