I drilled a hole in the driver's side storage compartment and grounded the amp to the frame. There's already a wire grounded in this spot so it's to connect.
Just did it yesterday. If you drill a holefrom the inside just under the tail light. You can run your groung to one of the bolt that hold the muffler to the frame. Perfect and short.
Great suggestion. Whatever gound point you choose, don't foget to wire brush all contact areas for the best possible contact. .......
Also, check it with a volt meter. If you don't have a volt meter, go buy one. There are grounds that will "work", but are not as good as others. You should get the exact same reading at your ground point as you do when you use the volt meter directly on the battery.
USE THE REAR RIGHT PASSENGER SEAT BOLT!, Don't drill into a corvette when there is no need. And about going back to the battery, although i'm sure it will work, the shorter the ground the better and there is no need to DOUBLE the length of your ground and bother stuffing it through the firewall. I have ran 5 or 6 1000+ systems all ran this way, works perfectly.
I agree, don't drill unless you need too and you know what you are doing. I know of more than one person who has drilled into a gas tank, fuel line, or wiring. (no, none of the died :blueangel: )
The whole idea behind a short ground dates way back when people were using small wiring. Electicity is like water that flow through a hose. If you have 0-guage wire running 12 feet but are only using 4-guage wiring for ground, you want that 4-guage ground to be as short as possible to equal out the resistence of the wire (hose). If you use the same guage wiring for both pwr and ground, the longest wire will be the weakest link. So if you use 12 ft of power wire and 12 foot of ground going to the battery you will will not see a bit of difference as long as they are of the same guage. If you use 12 foot of power wire and just 1 foot of ground of the same guage, then you power wire is your weakest link. I have a hard time explaining this but it is true.
