Default Looking for a new system

I am tired of dealing with the Bose amp problems. I have done the Bose amp repair B.S. in the tech tips and it was better for a while. Now they are going out again. If I send all four speakers in to Dr. Dons for rebuild that will solve the speaker problems but I will still have a casette player.

If I change it all can I get a better sounding system than a good working Bose? I dont want to spend more than $600. I want to use the factory openings as well. No additional holes. I am not real pickey on the sound quality. I just want something that can be heard over the road noise and the Borla's. This is an 88 convertible.

Any ideas?

Aftermarket will sound better. Your Bose system was designed in the early 80's, no matter what shape its in, it can not match 20 years of technology.

$600 leaves you with a few main choices. You can get a decent HU and four interior speakers and maybe a budget sub/amp. But, keeping in mind you just want loud, fairly good sound and you have a vert- I would wave the sub and focus on a good set of components and rear speakers and a 2 channel amplifier for one of the pairs.

For the HU I would recommend a trip to your local stereo store. Stick with Kenwood, Alpine, Clarion, Eclipse, or Pioneer for a start. You are just looking for a decent unit with controls that you like and feel comfortable with. Budget around $200-250. If you want to save find a unit you like and search for it online.

I'll let the others chime in for specific C4 sizes and speaker recommendations. I would recommend CDT Audio for excellent sound and price.

C'mon guys! I referred Paul over here from the C4 General section and told him if he posted a budget, the audio gurus would help him out! I'd steer him to what I did, Pioneer P-77 din and a half ($210), Pioneer 4x100 amp ($150), infinity kappa front 5 1/4 components ($165) and infinity 6x9 three-ways ($140), but I've learned from you guys that I could have done better for my money. I'd put him on the Alpine head unit, US Acoustics amps and CDT speakers you guys love, but I've never used them myself so it wouldn't be a fair referral. Help a brutha out!

Like anything else the more you learn the more you dont know. I have questions.

What size speakers will fit in the factory dash openings? Bose did'nt use the dash openings, is that correct?

Can I leave the door speakers alone? Not use them and put speakers in the dash instead?

What size speakers fit in the rear boxes. This is a convertible so the boxes mount right in storage compartment floor. I guess I could open them up again and find out.

For an avreage system is it really necessary to run all new wiring to the speakers? I know the relays power the amps but do they also control the signal to the speakers?

speakers in the dash will sound bad.. speakers in the door will sound good.. jmho. I've done both.

run new wiring.. extremely easy in c4...

youn can fit 6x9s in the rear easily. But get 6.5's if you plan on using a sub.
