Just curious what you guys are doing with the factory system? I read a post where someone was selling this on ebay. I don't plan on selling my vette and if I do it will be a very very long time from now. Do you think it's a wise idea to remove the system and sell it?
This is the first time I've had a cd changer. I kind've like it but I hate that it skips everytime I hit a bump in the road. I think it is due to the mounting position of changer. It ticks me off when it skips. I'd almost consider keeping this if it would plug up to my HU. The HU is JVC KD-SH99 the one with mp3 playing capability. I'm a babe in the woods as far as connecting the changer. My instinct tells me this wont work but ya never know.
BTW, where's a cheap place to get a wirring harness? I'm going to be powering my sub and comp set with sep. amps. I don't really need anything but power, gnd, and turn on.
In all honesty Noel....if you are going to add amps, you said amps I am assuming you mean one for mids/highs and one for a sub. If you are going to do this then you need to remove the factory speakers. If you are going to remove the factory speakers then you should remove the radio also. All in all if I were you I would pull all the BOSE out and replace with whatever aftermarket you would like. That is what I did in my vette and have always recommended to my customers. There is my 2 cents for you. :) Good luck
I sold the whole Bose system on E-bay. One auction for the HU, another for the 12 Cd changer, and even one for the stock speakers. I can't remember exactly what I got for it all but it was at least $550.00.
No, the factory changer will NOT work with the JVC head unit or any aftermarket HU that I know of.
Re: What to do with stock BOSE system? (knewblewkorvette)
Ok guys thanks for the replies. I've actually had a member interested in some of the components.
EatRice - you're darn right! I'm replacing with some quality speakers and amps. I'm using an ArcAudio amp for the mids (can't remember the exact model number) and temporarily a MTX 500D for the sub. I posted about all of the fiberglass work a bit ago. When funds become sufficient I'll be buying a 12" idmax. I'm still on the fence on the component set. I'm trying to get in a car with the components I want. I hear wonderful things about CDTs and MB Quarts. It's just a matter of time.
So any words of advice as far as pulling this system out? Anything special? It sounds like there's an amp in each door? How about the rear speakers? Is there an amp pushing them as well?
Water drips on my rear speakers all the freakin' time. I don't really see a reason of placing speakers there. Obviously there are some professionals in the audience so how bout some advice?
Wow $550? Man if I got that kind of cash for it I'd be in business. I was hoping to get 200 for everything. Gotta love ebay.
Noel the front speakers come out with a few screws amp and all. Running speaker wires into the doors is also easy. To get at the rear speakers you all you have to do is pop off the grill. I am not going to use rear speakers in my car because they are too close to my head. Also I am using Mb Quart speakers mostly because of what I pay for them and I like them. But I also like CDT and Focal. I have Focal Utopias in my dually and love them. I have also had CDT ( actually had them before they were CDT) very nice sound. I was able to make mine very "soft" sounding...pleasant. Do you know what I mean? Either way also those speakers are very nice and work well I think you should listen to them and pick what you like. I am going to be finishing my door speaker install tomorrow and posting pics. I am very excited it is the first time I have machined aluminum speaker mounts like this. :)
Thanks for the tips man. I appreciate you helping me with all the questions. I guess its time to do my homework on what the going price is on ebay. Do you own a shop? If so let me know if you can get decent pricees. I look forward to pics.
Thanks to everyone else that chimed in. This process is so much easier when the guess work is minimized.
No problem Noel. I own a sign business and a car audio/fabrication business. I have a 1500 sq ft fabrication shop in my back yard. I do installs but at this moment I do not sell any equipment because of the overhead and the lack of a showroom. Mostly I build custom one of stuff furniture and home audio type of stuff. I do car audio when it comes around but I have been doing audio for 15 years professionally and doubt I will ever stop. It is my link to car customizing at the moment. What do you do?
I'm really into audio. I love music. I listen to such a wide variety of music I'm just really wanting to have the best I can afford and build myself. I really like doing custom work. I know others customize their car by having someone build or install something. I started that way but I quickly ran outta cash and learned things myself. Not to mention I had a buddy that used to rent cars and we'd throw in a subwoofer :blueangel:
I was just checking about the possibility of buying from you. You've helped me out a bunch with questions about my upcoming install. I'd rather support your business than someone else with comparable prices ya know?
I'm a computer engineering student. I've been learning a bunch about electronics and circuits and what not. Only problem with schoolin' is that it gets in the way of your education :jester It's hard to get real world knowledge in school. I'm constantly having theory shoved down my throat without the possibility of applying it at this stage in the game. Luckily I've got an awesome electronics professor that doesn't mind me asking this kind of stuff in class. He's a car guy too so it works out well.
That is cool Noel. I guess I did not answer your question about the product. When I need to buy product for myself or a customer I get it from a few local shops that sell to me at cost or just above cost. I will be dead honest with about equipment costs. You can find almost anything on the net for what I pay for it and sometimes less. I personally paid more my 42" Pioneer plasma tv buying through my distrubitor than if I would bought it off of the net.
