Hello, I was wondering if you guys could help me out...
My husband and I have a 90 ZR-1 and the radio and speakers are on the fritz.I would like to replace them or see if the ones we have can be repaired. Do you guys have any suggestions as to where to start? Some prices and stuff would be helpful.
thanks :) :)
I can tell you what not to do...
Do not waste money fixing the factory system.
Do not have a chain store (like Best Buy) do the install.
Do not collect $200
Do not go past GO
playing monopoly with my daughter the other day :D
you sound like the hubby...it drives me crazy to ride around with no tunes or tunes only coming out of one speaker and I can't take it anymore...however the hubby won't let me put an after market in the vette so I need pointers on how to make the POS that it came with to work :)
Well then you are going to have to take your car to a qualified car audio shop for a diagnoisis. I know in Oldsmar, FL there is a place that is GM certified to repair radios. Also there are a few companys now making BOSE replacement amplifiers. If stock is the way you have to go then try to stay away from the dealer....they are really going to nail it to you. When you go to a shop ask alot of questions about your car and their experience with Corvette's and BOSE systems. Feel the guy out before you let them work on your car.
What!!
Time to put your foot down.
Tell the hubby that there be no nookie till you have a decent stereo in the vette. You'll have 2000 watts and subwoofers galore within a week :jester
I agree with EatRice, knowledge is most important when it come down to a problem like this. The C4 are known to have issues with the factory stereo.
I still think you best bet is to go aftermarket. If the hubby is concerned about resale, keep the factory stereo to reinstall later. You can put aftermarket speakers behind the factory speaker panels and you'll never know it's not stock (except for the better sound). It is also super easy to put in an aftermarket HU. Just get the wiring harness for it and it will be an easy swap. Good luck
I live in Jacksonville North Carolina...anyone know a place in this state they would trust to do a diagnostic test ...the hubby says he knows how to fix it and blah blah blah but just keeps putting it off so ...
I do want to keep the stoke stuff in but where do I look for replacement parts and stuff? thanks again for all your help :) :)
screw a 'diagnositic test'... the amps are fried. it happens. there are these little capacators on the boards that explode and cause the amps to weaken.
if you want to fix the Blose, contact Dr Don's. he has a good rep.
your in Jacksonville? Your hubby a marine? I would go to a real town... too many fly-by-night outfits... When driving into town, I noticed all the attempts to separate the service man from his hard earned cash. Sad.
I would head to Railegh or something like that...
my nephew is in the Navy, his home base is Lejuene (sp?).
Lejeune :) Yep my hubby is a Marine , he is on the forum too you might know him "Phrogs"? oh trust me I am well aware of the shady stuff in this town...I was just trying to get a heads up on where to start and who to trust if I need help.
Raleigh huh, do you know anyone there? What about Wilmington? Or Winston-Salem that is where I am from and go there often. :) :)
There are a few shops in Winston. At least they were there last time I was. They are all on the main strip that runs through town...the mall is on it and a hospital. Sorry I lived there several years ago and can not remember the name. But there is a Circuit City close to the mall.....in the parking lot of the Circuit City is a stereo shop. This shop is part of a chain of shops in NC and last time I was there they had some very good people working there. I was friendly with the owners when I lived there. I was supposed to work for them but ended up moving back to Fl. Anyways they are good people and try to only hire good people and do honest business. I hope you know where I am talking about.
