Hi All. My 1st post. Just picked up my 01 Red Convertible 2 days ago. Traded in my heavily modded 02 Chevy Avalanche to get it. The Chevy Avalanche Club Site was so much fun and very educational, I thought I would try out this site. If this is posted in the wrong forum, I apologize and I am sure a MOD will move it soon.
Anyway, I pulled my Pioneer NAV system from my Avalanche and want to install it in the vette. My vette has the Bose system right now. I am planning on putting the HU with motorized screen in the current HU location. I need to come up with a spot for the DVD nav unit. Any suggestions, besides the trunk? How do I get the bezel off the area of the dash I am working on? I pulled a little and it would not come off. Any suggestions on routing cable, finding a good ground for the NAV unit and power for the NAV unit? I am also installing XM, and that seems like it will be the hardest. Where to put the antenna on a convertible? Advice appreciated. I am going to start it on Turkey day and work on it over the weekend.
you can find lots of info for taking the dash aprt at http://www.vetteessentials.com and i was talking to some installers about the XM radio antennae for my vert and they said if it is hidden it wont give a consistant reception.... so i passed on XM for now
Everyone I have talked to about the XM is putting it in the rear end of the car. Most are putting it on top of the license plate enclosure. I have heard that this works well and is where I am going to put mine. No way to want that ugly little antenna on the body of my car. One guy on here put his on top of his dash in the corner.
I put my nav unit in the trunk behind the passenger seat in my vert. I ran the wires up the center hump. The nav antenna went in the rear bumper fascia. It's easy to remove a taillight and tape it up. Use a stud that bolts the seat down for a ground.
I hear vrumvrum makes a nice mount that will help you mount the monitor.
