Here is my door speaker system right now :
Kicker RM8's where the Bose 8 "subs used to be.
MB Quart DKC 108 3.5" Coaxials right above the Kickers.
Pair of Infinity Kappa Tweeters on my A- Pillars to raise the soundstage.
The sound is actually pretty good, but you know we here always want better !
I like the sound of having the 8" midbass up front, yes I have a sub (ed12a).
I was thinking of getting something like the CDT41 Comp set and putting
the 4" mids where I have the 3.5"'s now and mounting the tweeter in my
A-Pillars where my Infinity Kappa's are now. I would like to get a three way
and be done with it, but the good ones(Focal, CDT, Boston's)are all
expensive. I don't want to pay more than $200. What should I get ?
sounds like you have a nice set-up already. Have you sealed the 3 1/2 speaker from the pressure effects of the 8" in the doors. I'm not sure it would affect the mid to much since it is a 8" but it might help.
Get the CDT 641's put the 6.5" and the 4" in the door and a-pillar the tweets
Get the CDT 61's put the 6.5" and the tweeter in the door and get an image
enhancement kit for the my a-pillars.
Get the CDT 41's and keep my Kicker RM8's and mount the 4" above that
in the doors and the tweet in the a-pillars.
Buy the Focal 4" comp set and mount as stated above.
Buy the Boston 4" comp set and mount the same way.
Keep in mind that I like a slightly bright sound and I don't want too
mellow a speaker. I am looking for the best imaging combo I can get.
So what does everyone think I should do ?
According to a lot of the people here the CDT's are natural and warm.
I believe that a speaker can be either natural sounding on the warm side
or natural sounding on the bright side.
Generally speakers sound "warm" because they aren't bright... if that makes sense. The CDT mids are designed for a flat response pretty much up to 4khz... which by definition.. is natural. I'm not sure how flat the tweeters response is, but its not overbearing/tinny (MB Quartz) or "too lively" (Focal) so I'd define that as natural.
If it makes sense, it doesn't add "PLINK!" to string instruments, and it doesnt add "Schhhh!" to cymbal crashes like Focal/MB Quartz tweets.
Of course, a lot of people like the extra PLINK!, SCHHH!, etc... beyond the original recording...
just like al ot of people like the extra impact ni bass above the original recording. I know i do.
Kale, you've got me sold on the CDT's, but I have a couple of questions.
How do you like the CDT's compared to the Focals now? I read some old posts where you said that, on a lot of music you preferred the detail of the Focals'over the warmth of the CDT's.
Which tweeter did you get on you CL61's ? The Zeb is now bundling the
titanium 3/4 inch tweeter with the $149 cl-61's. Would you think this will
still sound good. For me maybe this is the comprimise I would like cause
I tend to like a liittle more top end and detail, so the titaniums may just
be what I need.
I settled on this combo : The CL61a's for $149 with a set of image enhancement tweeters for my a-pillars for $49. Should I make those
also titanium or get the silk soft domes to balance out the titaniums
below ? Are these the best bargains or should I look into the Carbon Fiber
set they have for $199 ? Thanks for your help !
