Default Is something burning?

Whenever I turn my head unit up quite a bit, after a while, it starts to smell like something is burning, only there is no smoke and the amps aren't reporting a heat problem. I also notice that when the bass hits, the dash fades a little from the speakers drawing too much power. Are these two incidents related? What can I do to solve the problem?

what kind of HU? Its not uncommon for some HUs to get very warm after long periods of heavy use. Also, if you did the install recently in an older car, its possible that some of the dust behind the dash is "burning". You can help eliminate the "dimming face plate", by giving the HU its own ground (not hooking into the ground wire from the car wiring harness, and running 10 gauge cable directly to the HU from the battery.

The HU is listed in my sig. Its definitely not the HU because it never used to do that before I added the 2nd amp. I'm thinking its the wire job they did to add the 2nd one.

If you are running close to the maximum power(or over it) on any of your speakers it could be the coils burning that you smell, sometimes new speakers will smell pretty bad when they are first run hard also.
